what is euro-scart?

I want to connect a VCR to a PC and am looking on ebay at VCR's described as having "euro-scart" - what does this mean and can i connect this to the S-video via a cable?

"Euro-Scart" is (basically) SCART. Apparently the Japanese use Scart, but the pins are wired differently, hence the prefix. Yes you can connect, but I'm not sure whether S-Video is a 2-way connection. (I thought you already had the VCR, Lord Vader? I hope this purchase isn't coming out of Imperial funds. ;-) )

Found this discussion on my net travels: http://forum.digitalspy.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=156102 . Seems to imply that S-Video is 2-way, but doesn't carry sound.

S-Video can carry sound; I've run out of SCART connections on the back on my TV so I've got a S-Video cable connecting my DVD player to my TV and everything works fine. However, if you've got a video card with a S-Video connection it might be the card that doesn't carry sound via the S-Video plug and you'd have to use the usual L/R speaker connectors instead.

Ok thanks everyone for the input. LeMarchand i am going with plan B - my video is too old (it seems - this would explain why Winfast PVR s/w had trouble tuning in to it's frequency) and only has scart-in so would be no use. plan B involves picking up a newer VCR off ebay for 10 quid and hooking up it's scart to the s-video on my card. cheers all
