This is a very simplistic question.
It actually relates very closly to teh bonus culture of the Banks i.e. Do we concentrate on the immediate future?
It may not be immediatley apparent to most but space explorationactually advances the humans race. Oddly the only other thing that comes close is world war. I think I know what I would choose.
India is a fast developing nation, why should they not want to be part of it?

I dont want to say anything because I am from Pakistan. People may think I am against India for the sake of opposition.
But before any one jump onto any conclusion I have same feelings about Pakistan. Both countries are full of people who do not have basic necessities of life but they are spending huge budget on weapons etc. Due to the illusions given by politicians as well as military generals.

Investment in weapons/space etc has spin offs that benefit the nation. If they just gave it to the 'poor' it would generat zilch. Ok for the Marxists amongst you this is a bitter pill but it is fact.
Face up to it the world (and certainly the third world) is not going to be a better place overnight, it takes time. Sucking money out to redistrute the waelth has been shown not to be the way, see of recent times the Eastern Bloc collapse.
India is improving very quickly, but they need to be involved in Western projects if Capitalism is the route they have chosen.
