Running of the BBC...
In the light of the recent fiasco, is it time the lefties where booted out of the BBC? Should the running of the BBC be handed over to the guardians of all that is good and moral, namely the daily mail?

Good and Moral - Shome mishtake shurely?
The BBC look like nuns compared to the long record of impropriety that the Mail has. The Mail print so many lies, and pay out so much libel money, the licence fee would have to double to keep up.

The fact is that the BBC, for all its faults (and no organisation that actually does anything will ever be fault-free) produces some excellent programming. As to it being biased in favour of the left or the right, I'm afraid I have to laugh a bit. There hasn't been a government in the last 50 years that thought the BBC was on its side. Thatcher and Major complained they were left-wing, Blair complained they were right-wing. GB's motives, track record and ability to win an election are called into question on a daily basis so I fail to understand how they can be seen as backing him.
The role of HM Opposition is to argue against the Government of the day. The press and the broadcasting media see their role as rubbishing politicians in general, usually on the basis that they could do much better if only they could find someone to sponsor them and enough idiots to vote for them.
Politics, the world financial crisis, the plight of a poor woman who has MS and is considering suicide, all of these are faithfully pushed to the top of our agendas until something really important comes along like Wossy and Brand when the journalistas can get out their knives to attack the real enemy, namely all the other channels. And getting back to this most urgent topic of the day, did anyone notice that after commercial TV's pillorying the Beeb relentlessly for a week over RB and his inane broadcast, who turned up on Channel 4 last night with the first of a new series?...................yup, Mr Brand.
I wish we could have Huw Wheldon and David Attenborough back at the helm, but it ain't going to happen - have a bit of a purge by all means, but please don't throw the baby out with the bathwater.

The devil and the deep blue sea spring to mind.
Andy and Dundurn I'm pretty much with you on this one.
I love the Beeb, it could do better and Brand etal should'nt have happened.
Perhaps you'd prefer the Berlusconi Broadcasting Corporation? Other countries just don't have anything like the Beeb, it's their loss.

No, but you could have a situation like in Italy were the Prime Minister owns the T.V stations or in Russia were they control it also.
The Beeb offers great value, even if you've got Sky you'll spend more time watching the Beeb then Sky and even Sky itself plays a lot B.B.C programmes U.K Gold etc.
Long live the B.B.C and as for the T.V licence I have to say it is one of the few taxes I pay cheerfully and get good use out of.
And the B.B.C does'nt just do T.V.
