According to Trevor Phillips of the Equality and Human Rights Commission, no "Barack Obama" could ever succeed in UK because of institutional racism. This I find very very droll, but also a little irritating, because as a result there could now be a huge "backlash" of political correctness resulting in the election of numbers of Black and Minority Ethnics disproportionate to their part of the population - i.e. election to positions of power purely because of their race.

Trevor Phillips is a racist, a black racist, and such a shame, because he was doing so well in highlighting the divisions in society resultant upon racial groups refusing to integrate.

You show me a black man who's good at golf and I'll show you potential champion, on a personal level I don't play golf (hate it) so I can't speak for golf clubs but golf clubs are synonomous with snobbery, allegedly.
We've also had a black trade union leader.
Business is only inetersted in one colour, the colour of money if you are making a company lots of money then you will progress.
Similarly if you wish to be the leader of a political party then you need to have an ability Thatcher had decisiveness and divisiveness), Blair was a good salesman, Brown a serious politician in serious times, Obama has charisma he loks presidential and always has he is a great speaker that and McCain's constant reference to fighting" (America's tired of fighting) helped win him the election.
He was the best candidate, that's why he won.
You notice you never hear men complain about how can they mix a carreer with a family life? Perhaps if people hen they applied for positions they did'nt get they just were'nt god enough, and perhaps instead of bleating about it should just try harder.
Or maybe even if people stamped out insults like "coconut" that would be seen as progress?
All you have mentioned is one black man who has got to the top....Trades Union leader.

A powerful arguemnt from you everton, just only hope that you are right.
?
This 'backlash of PC'ness resulting in a disproportionate election of B and EM candidates. How on earth do you imagine that is going to happen?

Suddenly local and national government are going to ditch their current elected members so that a wave B & EM candidates are going to be not only nominated but then elected.

Who is going to drive this absurdity, why are voters, those who bother to vote anyway, who still are in the main middle white england, going to start voting for B &EM in large numbers. Just because of what Trevor Phillips has said!!! Why would they? If it was only that easy.

Seriously blessed you don't truly believe what you have posted do you?
In my experience those people who complain that the view racism, sexism or homophobia is widespread at personal and institutional levels is grossly exaggerated; are generally white straight men. (I know there are black/ethnic minority who claim never to experience racism, women who deny the existence of the glass ceiling, but that is head in the sand minority and falling for the lies)

Those who incidentally have a disproportionate amount of world wealth, political power and who generally start, engage in and profit from war.

It serves their interest well to keep the status quo and to perpetuate the myth that there isn't discrimination and disadvantage. If the occasional 'success' is wheeled out, it can be used to propagate the idea that we live in a society where ability is the route to success, rather than gender, race and class.
When will we have a white leader of the ANC, white West Indian cricketer or white chairman of the Black Police Officers Association?...(I could go on)
Sqd do you think the term "coconut" discourages black kids from trying to achieve academically?
Perhaps there is an issue with peer group pressure with regard to academia and "whitey's trough" (line from the film "Shaft").
It takes a lot of hard work and effort to reach the top noone's going to step aside and make it easy for you to pass them, why would they? Why would one want them too? One should achieve on merit alone.
Voters would vote with their balots if an M.P were imposed upon them to meet some quota, such sentiments are meat and drink to the B.N.P.
everton, I have never heard or been associated with the word "coconut", so cannot comment."Whiteys trough", no idea what you are alluding too.
Whether you are black or white, I agree that effort is required to get to the top. It is the word "top" that we seem to have our dificulties. Yes, plenty of black hospital workers, doctors, barristers, MPs etc. bit NONE have had the top job, comparable to the President of the United States. You think that in the UK nobody has eqalled the "top job" because nobody has had that ability. Trevor Philips and I think that there is an element of racial discrimination entering into the abscence of a black man in "the top job"
Has anyone asked a black immigrant if they have so much talent why don't they return home and use their skills to bolster their homeland?
If you look here on Wikipedia, youll the West Indies has a history of including white players and having white captains.

The National Black Police Association has white folk among its membership but as to when one will be its Chairman, Ive no idea.

Not sure about the ANC so I cant really comment but then again, a lack of knowledge is not a barrier to some folk.

Do you actually mean immigrant, or descendents of immigrants...because the vast majority of Britain's non-white population were actually born here and are British.

Black/Asian Britons have roots here, amd I'd suggest to you that there's no 'going back'.
To be institutionally racist, T.P. should have identified the individuals who are the movers and shakers within the Labour party - he didn't - he couldn't - he's just doing his job of rattling the cage and keeping his big fat salary.
He supported multi culturism for years, when the rest of us just wanted to vomit, then he came around to OUR way of thinking, and realised that nobody can impose a watered down melting pot culture on the rest of us.
But T.P. is a success, to himself, contraversial and sucking thousands from the taxpayer. The country would be better off without this buffoon spouting $h1t whenever he wants a pay rise!
Sqd a "coconut" is someone who is black on the outside and white on the inside, if you reread my earlier post you'll see that "whitey's trough" was line from the movie "Shaft" a movie of black origin(?) so as such I feel it's fair to presume that the phrase was in some if not widespread use.
The point I'm trying to make is that it's a somewhat hackneyed idea this ethnic victimology, I don't doubt for one second that it was bad 20 years ago but it's not so now. Perhaps Trevor Phillips would be more gainfully employed fighting the resistance within black comunities to education, perhaps he'd be better off railing against "gang" culture perhaps he'd have been wiser when stating that the Police are so racist that ethnics should boycott joining instead to say sign up be the best in class and make them (whoever them is) deal with you.
The best way to open that can of worms is from within.
Do you think with all this constant hoo-haing that if anyone of ethnic origin were to make the grade (so to speak, dont assume I have meant anything particular) that the cynics of the world will assume that, they only achieved it because of their colour, or to make the numbers up. Many of our industries are institutionally sexist, let alone single businesses or political parties.

I would be content to support, vote and encourage or indeed pillory anyone I thought worthy of a position I had a say in, regardless of their skin or creed. I dont think I am alone in that.

I would present Sunand Prasad as an example of meritorious achievements. A Himalayan, he is President of the Royal Institute of British Architects.

I find the notion of a white plutocracy holding back the ethnic tide quite ludicrous, the very idea that an athlete who is beter than the rest can be held back due to colour is nonsense, try stopping em!
The last 20 or so years has seen huge leaps in equality, that's in effect the starting point and it is that late beginning admittedly that perhaps brings the disparity to which is being mentioned, but it is only by competing equally and fairly by being the best person for the job will it end, any other solution will just breed resntment.
I have encountered racism, and I have been the victim of racism, it exists for everyone.

Are you referring to Shaft the original film???

From like, 1972?

Whitey's trough - never heard the phrase. Possibly because it's from a film frmo 36 years ago...from another country!
Can anyone explain why when there are so many talented British black football players, there are so few in management positions???

Never thought of that until someone mentioned it at lunch.

How many are there? Is Paul Ince a manager?

Why are there no out gay players either?

Is there a reason for this, or just coincidence???

sp, great footballers don't make great coaches.

Take Pele for instance. Despite innumerable offers, Pele has always resisted the chance to follow his playing career with a move into coaching. He just thought he wouldn't be much cop at it.
