On the Capital Punishent bit, you have to agree that it probably wouldn't have stopped it, but what it would have done, is make sure that if these people are ever let out, they wouldn't re-offend.

Preventative justice what a good idea - lets expand that idea a little.

All we have to do is never let anyone out of prison whatever their crime - then we can make sure they don't reoffend either

Impractical - well simply hang them until there are prison places

But why limit it to known criminals surely that just exposes us to risk of those criminal element that have not yet offended?

Why don't we drive around in big black vans and pick up anybody who looks like they might commit a crime and throw them in prison!

As far as I am aware, capital and corporal punishment existed for thousands of years, yet still such crime prevails to this present day.

It wouldn�t appear to be such a great deterrent. If that�s what you want, then move to a law abiding, goody-two shoes society like Saudi, China, or the USA.

When hanging was stopped the public were lead to believe that life sentences would be handed out instead. This has not happened, infact due to leftie, liberal leaning judges we have people out in a few years. This is not justice.

For the record this was not a fit of rage(s) and I dont believe they were psychotic either, they are simply bad people. It is possibly true the threat of a death sentence may not have stopped this but on the other hand it may have. We just dont know.

Jake, if we locked up scum like this with proper sentences in proper hard jails (and dont twist it you know what I mean) then perhaps the public would not harp on about capital punishment.

Yes, it is good, in its place, and for minor crimes, and it can work, however jake, what about someone who has raped or murdered, got Life, released for good behaviour, and re-committed?.

This chap whose just tortured and killed baby 'P', there's an idea, teach him to read and write, send him on an anger management course, for good measure, maybe a holiday in the Bahamas.

String him up. he wan't get the chance to do it again,

A holiday camp in the Bahamas, perhaps, Octavius? Lonnie, I don't believe in stringing people up; and on balance I'd prefer not to be paying for their incarceration forever. It would be useful if they could be sorted out mentally (there must be something wrong with him, though perhaps I'm wrong), taught a trade, and ultimately - not soon - returned to become a productive member of society so he can start contributing to my pension rather than depleting it.

Quite frankly the thought of going to prison scares the heebie-jeebies out of me, and enough so that I could never think about committing a crime. Of course, some crime happens in those mad moments of rage, and one can never say never. If I did something like that then I would deserve the punishment.

I would wager that the not-so-nice approach has little effect either. Yes, that person would not commit crime again, but others will, and what does that make our society? Regardless of advancements in technology, there is still room for error or corruption, and I�d rather that any error was not a fatal one on behalf of our justice system.

I�m sorry if I offended anyone, I just wanted to know what was thought about it. Guess I worded it wrong (and sorry about the spelling). Although I would happily put a noose around both the parents necks who treated this baby so cruelly, along with the two boys who murdered the little Bouger boy (not sure of spelling), I still think of what horror that little boy must have felt, as he was dragged away from his mother.

I just wonder when this type of behaviour is going to be prevented??
