Is BNP membership a sackable offence?
I was looking through the BNP membership list after it was leaked online and, as well as discovering that the family who live two doors down from me are all members (you really wouldn't have guessed to look at them), I noticed a few teachers, prison officers and servicemen were on the list.
I seem to remember reading that membership of a far right organisation is a sackable offence for police officers? Is that right? And does it apply to other public sector careers like teaching?

Ace.
In reverse order then.
- Yes, if you like.
- In what way is it racist? (It's the National Black Police Association by the way). Because of its very existence? Or because of its membership rules? It exists to support the plight of ethnic minorities in the police, a segment that is disproportionately under-represented, especially in senior positions. I'm all for addressing that. Membership-wise, white officers are allowed to join certain local chapters. It would be helpful if the others followed suit. Do you want to throw the MOBOs in for good measure? It's been about 9 minutes since we had that on AB.
- In what way would belief in a far-left group (which by its definition believes in universal acceptance, rather than elitist division) be an obstacle in public service?
- BNP members look like the ordinary man, the salt of the earth, the backbone of Britiain, the voice of the streetzzzzzzz.... oh, and they don't - I repeat, don't - wear bomber jackets.

Not sure if the Nation of Islam has much of a footprint over here, but as a black supremacist group, I would be very uneasy with members holding sensitive positions.
Weirdly, even at the high of racial tensions in the UK during the 70s and 80s, the Nation Of Islam has never been able to gain a support foothold in this country. I suppose that says something about people's common sense.
Anyway, back to the question at hand - do you think there are certain sensitive jobs which are incompatible with being a member of a far right white supremacist group?

Yes Sgt. Rock Nation of Islam is a racist organisation and is incompatible with any job where you have to deal with the public on an equal basis.
This doesn't necessarilly mean that employers should have to delve into peoples memberships to determine whether they are members of such organisations but if it comes to their notice that one of their employees in such a role is a member of a racist organisation they will probably need to take action.

sp - As I have already stated - You are saying white supremacy group others may SAY legitimate political party. Do I think certain jobs are not compatible with being a member of a legal poiltical party, my answer is no. All a matter of perception isn't.
Do you think membership of the Communist pary should be a sackable offence for someone in public life. Maybe it could be extended to all poilitical parties just because someone didn't agree with their policies?

In 1985, one of its main activists, Tony Lecomber, was sent to prison for trying to blow up the offices of a rival organisation. He was also caught with hand-grenades. Despite his attempted terrorism, he remains number two in todays BNP.
Would you say that threatening to blow up a political parties offices was an act of terrorism?
And would you back future bombings of Islamic and communist party offices if it was suggested ?
Id be ionterested in your views on this ?
