tax refund
5 Answers
has anyone know anything about 'the tax refund company' where you fill out a form (containing personal details, including national insurance number, but no bank details). and allegedly if you are owed a tax rebate they get it for you, for a 40 percent fee. i dont know if its relevant, but i have an unearned income also, which i intend to be fully upfront about when the time comes (ie. end of tax year).

In most cases the tax calcs are bl00dy simple, do them, if you paid too much call the tax office and they give you your dosh back. I cannot for the life on me understand why this whole industry exists. 99% of people's tax affairs are simple enough to not need these leeches. I know people who'll pay 100 to have their tax return filled in. you couldn't make it up!
I agree i work in the tax office we will always look at your P60's and P45's currently going back 6 years. It is really simple to do just send in originals and a covering letter (keep copies)asking us to assess the liability. And how you would like any refund paid. If we do not have a complete work history we may send a P91 to complete but it is a simple form. Dont pay these companies to do this for you why should they get any of YOUR money when we provide the service for free.
