If some of you who defend the police had, had dealings with some police officers you would see them in a different light, I have seen it, I have had to deal with it, be it many years ago they were nasty sods and no matter what you said you were gulilty, I am not one bit surprised at the above, it is happening a lot more often than comes to light, but will senior officers take the word of joe public, NO, why should they when the nice policeman says you are telling porkies. Thankfully things are now being caught on camera.
At work today several people knew about all of this because they had followed the earlier aspects of the case in the local Wigan paper. The problem is apparently, that in Wigan there is still a simmering pot of ill feeling towards the special constables since they stood by the water filled lodge and watched the young Wigan lad drown because they had been trained not to put themselves at risk in such situations. So they were trained not to rescue a drowning child and trained not to punch intoxicated members of the public in the head, but they got both wrong IMO

GMP have got a reputation for their rough and very public unfriendly policing. The mistake here was to unwittingly pick on a war 'hero' and do him over in the street and not in a cell. Let's face it, that is the only reason this is getting a sympathic press is because the man had served his country. It is no good saying the police involved were three bad apples. He was charged and this film was offered as evidence against him. More senior police officers will have reveiwed the evidence before he was charged. The fact that they saw this footage, and proceeded to enter it as evidence against him shows their contempt for the public.
The soldier should think himself lucky in one respect, Usually the CCTV footage goes missing or was mysteriously not on when the police give someone a kicking.
