Is a knighthood for a cyclist a bit over the top? I know he performed really well, but a knighthood? Three golds = Sir; two golds = OBE, F1 champion in his second year = MBE
I already did say that, Jake. I have no argument with the idea that a nation might recognise great achievements by its citizens, and it ought to be possible to contrive an uncontroversial system for doing it. But we're not there yet (to put it mildly).
