Why do people bother replying?

Just wondered why people bother to post replies to posts that they are not interested in answering properly.

I see lots of answers on here that are nothing to do with the question, are merely excuses to slag off the poster or are replies to replies to replies that just keep the purile nonsense going.
I for one fail to see what the point of doing that is and quite frankly at times get fed up of having to trawl through inane and banal tripe in the hope of getting to a sensible answer.

Whatever happened to "If you have nothing sensible to say don't say anything at all"

BOO thats true and admittedly some of it can be funny but when its the same old same old all the time with certain people regurgitating stuff that is weeks, months and even a year or so old is it not time to give it up? Jeez.
