I had a powercut today for 6 hours an my freezer defrosted. When i calld insurance co they said I was not covered as I dont have 'power breakers' ?? On my main appliances! I didnt know that was needed, seems my new laptop caused a power surge. Can I dispute?

You say it was a powercut ? so it was loss of power and food spoils in the freezer - powerbreakers only stop a surge to my knowledge ...i would fight it .. good luck
How do you know it was your new laptop that caused the powercut? That sounds all very implausible to me, but I'm no electrician.
Your freezer should not have defrosted even without power for 6 hours.

I had a 13 hour power cut last month and my freezer did not defrost.

Did you leave the door open?
if you assume its just one property that had the powercut that was caused by a particular electrical item that tripped the whole curcuit. If power breakers had been fitted there wouldnt of been a total failure, possibly power breakers are a clause in the policy !!
Looking at it like that you can see where the insurance company is coming from. Also find it odd a laptop would cause a powersurge, where did this info come from ?
