Is Hoon right to accuse Thompson of hypocritsy?
Can one compare these celebrities on a par to all those that complain and demonstrate about mobile phone masts going up in their patch, but still continue to buy and use mobiles?

She isn't objecting to air travel, she's objecting to a third runway. That's not hypocritical.
How many people are there saying 'I'd just love to go to Tokyo but I can't because Heathrow doesn't have enough runways'? My guess is none. New runways will chiefly benefit airlines and the airport owners. How many customers are actually complaining?

No it's not hypocritical. It's like you or I driving along a perfectly good single carriageway road every day and not wanting it to be turned into a dual carriageway. At these times of climate change and credit crunch, we're all being urged to be less dependent on air travel, so this is a bizarre time to be talking about expanding anyway.
Nice picture of Geoff Hoon, by the way. Was he in the middle of a hokey-cokey at the time?

Emma Thompson said "...we're trying to stop the expansion of Heathrow in the face of climate change"
So, unless she decides to swim to America for her next role, I think Geoff Hoon, d i c khead though he generally is, was perfectly justified in calling her a hypocrite.
If she is that concerned about climate change, she can do her bit by not flying.
