Any suggestions of insurers who don't think all over-70s are either ga-ga or have one foot in the grave?

Absolute nightmare. I exclude my existing medical conditions from the insurance, which brings the costs down a great deal. Thankfully none of them are linked to heart attack, stroke or fracture so I am insured for those eventualities.

I'm afraid you'll have to shop around - what is cheap for me and my circumstances may be dearer for you. Here's a couple of suggestions, though:
Age 65-74: The Flexicover* policy (via MoneySupermarket; click the quotes for over-65s link) is 45 for an individual in Europe (69 for a couple), and 63 worldwide (89 for a couple).

Thanks Ethel - that sounds a lot better than quotes received so far.
My Mum is 80 and she got hers from the Post Office (cheapest she could find). Mum in law (84) uses Saga or Age Concern depending whos cheapest on the day.
Phone Help the Aged - they have a specialist who can definately help you
