I agree, its shocking, but in reality, its Hamas to blame, don't forget, Israel took something like six thousand rockets before they responded, and they were aimed at civilian targets, the only reason hundreds of israelis weren't killed or injured, is because they have a warning system and bunkers, plus also, talking goes both ways, Hamas won't talk to Israel.

One of the ridiculous things that's polarising this scenario is that those arging on either side are incapable or unwilling to accept the failings of their chosen side.

Palestine supporters never accept that under-the-wire rocket attacks undermine Hamas as a legitimate party. No wonder there'a retaliation. It's cowardly.

And Israel supporters are unwilling to accept that their government has been run by frothing idiots since Rabin died. And that their action has been so disproportionate, it has been bordering on war crime.

The most surprising thing about the whole thing is quite how badly Israel have handled it. They wanted to eliminate Hamas' ability to attack them and they wanted to win the support of the international community. They have only partially done the former (but are having to withdraw) and they have massively failed on the latter and made themselves look totally idiotic. It genuinely surprises me. It's thick.

The only way out of this will be through long, slow mediation. Neither side has covered itself in glory.

Anyone who watched Ch 4 news tonight must have been disgusted by the damage the tanks caused. Even John Snow was close to tears as was Chris Patten the EU minister. The stong condemnation of Blair and his failure to even go to Gaza was mentioned. But we know the reason for this. Because he had been given the quartet job by none other than G Bush he had instructions 'only talk to Abbas' on the Palestian side so he had no option. I really don't know why people keep comparing this to France firing rockets at the UK. I've seen this said several times on these threads. The fact is the UK never belonged to the French, and the French don't feel they have a claim to this land, so it's an meaningless scenario. Just a thought.

The Palestinians have been held prisoner in Gaza for long enough. Israel has been importing Jews as quickly as it can and increasing settlements illegally. They have been permitted by US and other countries, including UK, to get away with everything, including the war crimes from the so called "war" in Gaza because of the "holocaust".
