The Daily Mail
In a post a bit further down, a poster was referred to as a left-winger because they don't like The Daily Mail.
I'm right-wing, and unashamedly so, but I can't stand The Daily Mail.
Are there any more like me?

Interesting - what is it that you don't like about the Daily Mail?
I can't stand the paper, and someone challenged me the other day to say something positive about it.
And I think I can...whatever political persuasion you are, the Daily Mail is brilliant at launching campaigns. It's good at galvanizing it's readership.
Also, it's stand on the acquittal of the men acquitted of the murder of Stephen Lawrence was admirable.
Ugh...just writing that was as unpleasant as undergoing a biopsy without anaesthetic.

Their general perniciousness, their failure to report full stories if the unreported part doesn't fit in with their 'spin' on the story, their eagerness to whip up a furore over minor matters that they percieve as being someway immoral (see the whole Jonathan Ross incident - 2 complaints after the broadcast, 40,000 after TDM grabbed hold of the (non) story), the fact that everything, literally everything, will give us all cancer etc....
I could go on all day, but I'm sure you get my point.

I'm curious about your comments on the Express vs Mail. We get a stack of papers at work, and I normally browse a few of them first thing in the morning...and I sometimes have to check the top of the page when I'm reading the Express or Mail, because they seem very similar to me.
Apart from the fact that the Express had a Diana story on the front page practically every Monday from the day she died until the conclusion of the last inquest, they seem pretty similar to me.

If you approach it with an open mind rather than be influenced one way or another then it should not bother you. Sometimes I get heated by the editorial in the Times which follows the US position to a tee. I believe the Tory Michael Gove filled the slot before he was elected but there must exist a clone now.
We can all find something in any newspaper, TV station news etc that we don't agree with.
Perhaps it doesn't fit in with our political leanings or our life styles for instance, but most of us do not use any opportunity possible to carry out a slanging match against the said offender.
sp1814 is a prime example of only giving out praise to the Daily Mail when it publishes anything he agrees with, for example.
it's stand on the acquittal of the men accused of the murder of Stephen Lawrence was admirable.
'Methinks he protests too much' springs to mind.

minor matters that they percieve as being someway immoral (see the whole Jonathan Ross incident - 2 complaints after the broadcast, 40,000 after TDM grabbed hold of the (non) story),
'Minor matters' perhaps to flip_flop but not to the victim, and 40,000 protests thanks to the DM, perhaps flip_flop would also like to see certain newspapers stop carrying out protest polls? Anything that wakens the apathetic British has got to be a good thing.
Regarding the fact that everything, literally everything is bad for our health, the DM is not on it's own over this. The whole of the media and this Labour Government is equally to blame.

Hang on - that's unfair.

I didn't agree with the Mail's stance on the whole Brand/Ross issue, and was pretty ambivalent on the issue of the Poll Tax, both I acknowledge that the campaigns they ran were extremely effective.
So to say that I only give praise when I agree with the Mail is not accurate.
Oh, and I recently posted a thread where I said that I was shocked that I agreed with the views of Mail readers about Cerrie Burnell.
M'lud I submit that the defence doesn't have a case to answer and I call for this case to be dropped.

My two favourite papers are The Independent + The Telegraph. Yet, do buy The Express- solely for the crosswords + The Mail solely for the crosswords- competition ones. The Independent is more to my taste- cup of cha. Yet buy papers for differing reasons. Agree with much of what has been said here, yet, what do like about Mail is the amazing pictures they have in them sometimes- especially wildlife photography ones. All papers have articles in them that you do not like or agree with- even the papers you enjoy reading yet you to have to take the rough with the smooth sometimes. Like this AB site there are some real rum characters here yet there are also some really lovely people too. Voted Lib Dem all my adult life until recently switched to Conservative due to David Cameron becoming leader ( funny how much he looks like Nick Clegg- Lib Dem leader, too ;-) )! Some people here thought was left wing which amused me greatly! Take care flip-flop + have a great Tuesday (i) !
Warm wishes, Bea :-)
