I am floundering this month and would much appreciate any assistance with the following
1. A seven letter word beginning with A. The clue is "80 in Germany chat about zag's predecessor!"
2. A seven letter word beginning with C. The clue is "Mid-points where H in France overlaps with 3 in ancient Rome". I think the answer might be "CENTRES" but I don't see why.
3. Eight letters in total (5-3) beginning with F. The clue is "Less than fifty translated story in difficulty".
4. Eleven letters in total (8,3). The clue is "Necromancer and influential mediaeval Italian family with new name arranged". The Medici family comes to mind, but I don't see where to go from there.
5. A five letter word beginning with P. The clue is "Boy from Europe, terrified".
6. A four letter word beginning with X. The clue is "In Rome, 11 into 15 = 24" Could the answer be XXIV?
. With this puzzle you have to solve all 26 clues to give 26 words (A to Z) before attempting to fit the solutions into the crossword grid so you don't have odd letters in the answers to assist. Sorry about the number of questions. I normally find the "Place Your Alphabets" a good challenge, but this one rather more so!
