Should Hindus be offered specialist sites that would enable them to cremate their dead relatives in the open air, which is more in keeping with their traditions?

Personally, if dedicated sites were provided around the country, I wouldn't have a problem with the practice. It's not as if they are asking for permission to light fires on the local recreational ground whilst I'm having a picnic with my family.

NO! nothing to do with race or religion just the fact that its an open air cremation and I for one dont want to be eating a takeaway and have an indian float onto my indian,a chinese into my chinese,an english float onto my full english breakfast,or a west indian onto my west indian meal! Altho an italian falling into my pizza would not be a bad thing as long as it was a she and was alive!lol!

No way, for one thing we don't as yet have vultures to clean up nor do we have the large open spaces.Elf and safety wouldn't allow it ,anyway we have indoor cremations. The English weather could be a big problem too.

why should they be allowed.

If they are that concerned about cremating their loved ones in the open air, they could fly the body back to India.

But I suppose the Courts will give in on an appeal on grounds of their human rights, even if they are dead.

Well I'm sure alot will be surprised at my answer - but why not.

This is harmless religious ritual, while I have no time for religion I also have no problem with peaceful and harmless religious practices.

This concession does not extend to bombing your fellow man, like other religions advocate.

Even if this was allowed you'd have the usual Nimby problem. Look what it's like when a council wants to build an incinerator, and they are much cleaner than this would be. Would you like it up the road from you? See my point!

Also on a technical point, there's about 800 million Hindus in india and they must die at the average rate, if they are all cremated like this, india must be as black as Newgate's knocker FFS! Not to mention unbreatable, some kind sole enlighten a confused Geezer, thanks.

As long as the sites are chosen sensitvely there shouldn't be a problem.

We allow cremation as a preferred disposal of our mortal remains and , due to our culture it takes place in souless clinical surroundings, more often than not the coffin and contents are removed from the bereaved's view many hours before the final cremation,

It's a sensible suggestion. Find out where they are going to burn corpses in the open, and if it is next door to you, hold your hand over your bbq chicken lest a floating piece of charred Hindu land on it. Ethnically entirely correct, but don't trust that the germs have all been killed.
