why do why addapt our pets names to jiberish ?

why is it we start naming our pets crazy things example my cats are called fluff cat, smokey and minstrel
fluff often gets called mr fluff , fluffster.or fluffster woofster poofster lol
minstrel get called minstrel moo or minstrel moomins
and smokey gets smokey wokey or smokes or grey cat
why do we talk this jiberish when calling out to our pets

Oh good I'm glad it's not just me then! I am pretty sure my cats hardly recognise their proper names these days! It is a wonder mind you isn't it true that

A dog comes when called, cats take a message and get back to you.

So i suppose you could call them what you like and it wouldn't make any difference. Mind you my two look at me like I am mad sometimes as if to say "why on earth are you talking to me like that?!"

it's the same sort of thing as talking in baby talk to, well, babies! not sure why we do it, our cat is called bruno and he gets called slinky cat, slinkyfutor (from a label on some foreign sweets), slinky brinky, slinky malinki, bruno toono, bruno spoono, spoonface and slick as a brick

My niece and nephew hate me for doing the same ummmm! I'm the only one that gets away with it! Why is it we lengthen short names and shorten long names!!!

yeah, I read the slinky malinki books and got very excited because we'd always said that bruno was 'slinky' and he's black so it was just a natural progression lol!

glad you like the spoonface lol, its even more funny when he's lying on the floor and you can say "aww bruno!" and he rolls over once to say "look at me and my long body" so you say "aww slinky cat/spoonface/one of the other nicknames" and he rolls over more in a vain "yes i am gorgeousness personified, worship me!" way

I think we've read all of them! They are great aren't they - plenty of name ideas for future pets! He also reminds me of the cat on the sheba advert only a different colour! He he. I love Zachary Quack he's so cute! Hairy MClary reminds me of a poodle I had as a child!

Harvey is called Pickle Pants cos being long haired his rear view looks like he is wearing a pair of hairy trousers... so hence pants! Pickle.. because he is a bit naughty sometimes!

yeah love the way cats have that mad ten minutes then sit down suddenly and calmly as if they've realised that they had lost all composure and need to control themselves if they want to continue ruling the household!
