When extremists start fighting someone eventually comes out on top which brings the violence to an uneasy end but when outsiders interfere the violence can go on for decades or longer. Think of Northern Ireland and Israel . I know when left alone many conflicts end with the wrong side winning depending on your point of view but the alternative usually results at best in stalemate and at worse not stop violence .
The UN have a dismal record when interfering , think of the Congo and Sudan. Maybe the time has come to let people sort out their own problems. It may sound cruel but in the long run it may be for the best.
