Boris Johnson gets the hump and walks out of a Commons select committee meeting when he thinks the questioning is unfair. Is he right to complain about party politicking or should he have taken it on the chin and continued with the meeting?

Boris was right to walk out, silly c0w couldn't grasp the basics. The Mayor's in charge of the weather now is he? Right oh!

Boris behaved according to the general rule in this situation:

I'm not Tory, and certainly not a Boris fan, but I think he was well within his rights here. Maybe they thought he had a magic wand which would make the snow disappear!

I have no political bias one way or another regarding this incident which I've just viewed.

I couldn't really understand why they were having this meeting in the first place! Yes, we know that there was heavy snow once or twice in February which affected a lot of the country including, for once, London. Big deal!

Was Boris Johnson expected to have stopped the snow from falling? As Mayor, should he personally have ensured that the gritting lorries were out and about? Doh - No!!!

I got the strong impression that the MP who was referred to on tape as "Martin" (I assume it was his surname?) was trying to make some cheap political point at Boris who, in my view, did not "get the hump", he instead assumed the question had been put, he had answered it, an he then left, simple as that.

The female chairman seemed to me to be quite fair and seemed to be trying to keep "Martin" in check!

Wonder how much that little lot cost the taxpayer!!!

I have observed him dishing out criticism over the years , on many occasions , when it was not warranted , against the recipient .

He can't stop the snow but he can clear it up, he's in charge, he's responsible for the failure to keep the roads clear.
The weather forecasts were for heavy snow, negligence is failing to act to prevent something which is foreseeable, he was negligent in his tasks that day.

Don't know if Jake watched Dispatches last night ('The Truth About Boris'), but it would appear that London's Mayor is a) an idiot b) a liar and c) a lying idiot.

I was pretty ambivalent about him until recently, but now, I'm embarrassed that he's London's 'leader'.

Believe me, I am NOT sticking up for Boris Johnson - I'd have said the same had Red Ken still been in charge, but, how in Hell's teeth can Boris be personally held accountable?
The reason I say that is because as Mayor he has who knows how many minions below him who should have acted to get the proverbial wheels put into action.

It's a bit like saying Gordon Brown, David Cameron and Nick Clegg should all be sacked for their ministers/MPs being found thieving from Joe Public right, left and centre.

The question isn't whether Boris should've stopped the snow. The question is why was London so ridiculously unprepared?

Why the entire transport system grind to a halt?

Where were the gritters?

Why was there no contingency plans for essential services?

This is what the committee was convened to find out. For Boris to throw a hissy fit and mince out was just not on.

Many on here have expoused the view that Gordon Brown should be sacked for the failures of his minions below him .
For example - remember lost data discs ?

If the buck stops with Gordon Brown then equally , it stops with Boris - he cant have his cake and eat it .

If he wants to play at being Mayor , then he should have ensured that the minions below him were in a state of preparedness to deal with the event .
