Boyfriend's self-defense and warrant for arrest
My bf was racially attacked in 2007. We had just left a talent competition and my bf had a miniature pool cue, which he had used for his performance in the competition. As we walked home on the main high street, 3 men approached us shouting racist abuse. One of them tried to punch my bf who held up his hand with the pool cue to defend himself. The attacker continued to try and punch my bf who was running away from him, and eventually my bf hit him on the arm with the pool cue. Another guy came and punched my bf in the eye. I waved a police car for help. When they stopped they immediately jumped on my bf who had the pool cue in his hand. We and other witnesses tried to explain what had happened, but the police refused listen and asked independent witnesses to leave. Meanwhile the 1st attacker was standing by without police apprehension still racially abusing us. The other 2 attackers ran. My bf was taken to the station and questioned. No statements from me or other witnesses were taken. A few months later he was called for a trial diet. Because my bf was due to start work abroad and the actual hearing had not been set, he asked his lawyer if the process could be sped so that he may attend prior to leaving. The lawyer didn't have much to say about this. My bf had to leave the country for his new job and 3-4 months after his departure was informed that there was a warrant for his arrest, due to being unable to attend a court hearing that was set a few months after his departure. Financial burden of flying back (~ �3000 due to the remoteness of his posting), meant my bf was unable to return to the UK. He kept in contact with his lawyer verbally and in writing, but received little advice on how to handle the situation. My bf is now able to return to the UK, but we don't know A) what the likely outcome of the verdict will be, B) how his absence will affect the trial and C) what the protocol is when he gets to UK customs (i.e. will he be arrested?). Please help!

Without going into the complications of the whole thing, I would strongly advise your boyfriend, assuming that he gets into the country, to go with, or without, his solicitor to the Police Station where he was taken to when he was arrested.
There must still be a warrant out for his arrest and there's no point trying to put it off - it's not going to go away. The matter will have to be cleared up and there's no point in him burying his head in the sand pretending it'll all disappear - it won't!
