I think on this one we have got to put aside the sentiment over this problem.

As Gromit has already said we are already a overcrowded island, with an overstretched NHS.

I have nothing against them receiving the same pensions and health benefits, providing that they have paid into them the same as our own troops.

Our own troops are not provided with houses when they retire or ar invalidated out, neither are their spouses if they are unfortunate to be killed.

The gurkhas are without doubt the most loyal to queen and country, and they return to fight for queen and country through generations.

But so are our own troops, but as it has often been said on this site, 'No one forced them to join up'

Yes there is little support from some, for our own troops never mind foreign ones.

Typical Gromit.

cocked this one up though mate.
I think we need a general rule for anyone who fought as part of British forces that they have the right to live here.

Gurkha, Indian, Jamaican whatever.

Good enough to fight for us, good enough to live with us.
Flip flop, you forgot to mention that Gromit is a well known anti British lefty t1t, this is the sort of leap of illogic he excells at!
I'm with Jake.

It's shocking.
What I can't stand though is the people who look on the Ghurkas as the acceptable face of colonial troops and completely overlook those other countries.

And the French can hang their heads in shame too!

and the American's supported them - quite disgraceful
They don't seem to have any useful skills to warrant them staying in the UK, and would probably be a drain on already limited resources. They must have travelled through quite a few countries to get where they are now.
Jake i don't rate the french. They were collaborators and seems they were no better than Hitler in their treatment of the Senegalese.

Is Britain taking its lead form France in respect of the Gurkha's?
Looks just like it.
" They fought for this country. They risked their lives for England."

They are still fighting for this country and risking their lives for England. They should most certainly be allowed in.
this makes me really f@cking angry. I paid 15k taxes last year. my pregnant wife has just been refused a visa to the UK.

Does that make any sense to anyone else?
...one law for the Gurkha's...another for everyone else...
Yes Gravitate, if your wife is anything like you, it makes perfect sense.
To me the issue is not one of emotion, they fought for us etc (actually they were part of the Allied cause), it is one of numbers - 36,000 - and where does it all end?

Does Britain grant automatic immigration rights to every country that sent anything from a single platoon to a massive army to fight the Allied cause?

Another small town of immigrants, where shall we build it - Lancashire, Norfolk, how about right next to YOU?

What is so wrong with where they currently live?
They served us well. Kick out the immigrants who demand and get their own way due to their religion and allow the Ghurkas in!!
I'd welcome them with open arms, personally, but have you seen the criteria they have to meet first?

1. Must have served at least 20 years in our Armed Forces.

2. Must have been decorated or nominated.

3. Must have sustained injury.

And the immigration Minister, Phil Woolas, has been whingeing about the Public/Gurkha supporters whingeing about how difficult he (Woolas) has made it for them.

I notice that Mr Woolas and his cronies have not made it quite so difficult for certain "asylum seekers" etc to gain access to the UK?
But why do all these people want to come here? What is so wrong with where they live? What is it about Britain that attracts them? If they are so angelic and brave and deserving why can't they sort out where they currently live?

Let's house all 36,000 of them next to YOU.
