The defeat of the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka has created a massive refugee problem. The Foreign Office expects about 80,000 to arrive in the UK. Will the strain on public services be too much?

I expect you are right, but a link would be helpful. Whatever happens, Britain will cope, even if it means building a brand new city in the middle of the Norfolk countryside, where there are far too many fields and sheep and other rural rubbish.

I heard that 50,000 were headed for Sweden.

Nah.. We'll still be ploughing through the red tape long after they've decided the weather over here is a bit naff and gone back home.
Yes, anyone who loses a war can come here.

More unemployed people, more people to look after on the NHS, more children to teach, more people to house, more benefits to hand out.

The sooner we stop taking anyone and everyone the better.

If the MPs would stop claiming expenses for five minutes maybe they could try to halt the tide of immigration.

Or are they too busy getting their moat cleaned out, or claiming for their second TV of the year.

Why should they come here when they hate us so much? We already have enough terrorists now.

But we will still give them a bucket full of our hard earned cash to help them on their way.

The British Government has pledged to give another 5 million in aid to Sri Lanka.
Why should they come here when they hate us so much?
What makes you say that they hate us? Do you think that the people protesting here speak for the refugees? Do you think that the refugees hate us?

We already have enough terrorists now.

Really, how many do we have? And do you really think that all Tamils from Sri Lanka are terrorists?
The point is that Britain welcomes multiculturalism in all forms, even if it means building houses all over the countryside, which has always seemed to me to be a waste of space anyway. I'd much rather see council estates and jabbering brown hordes rather than all those boring sheep. Another 80,000 valued immigrants means just a tiny little more sewage effluent, but loads loads more ethnic shops, mosques, special schools, and another language to print on the council leaflets (17 on Croydon's now). We can take it, it's only taxes, a small price to pay for Britain's multicultural triumph. Make 'em all doctors I say.

"I heard that 50,000 were headed for Sweden" I suppose they are going to attempt blend into the community, Whiffey?

Can you say they don't? you tell me. It seems all very convincing to me.

More than 1,000 people massed outside the British High Commission building in the Sri Lankan capital, accusing the UK of supporting the Tamil Tigers.

Or perhaps if it is true that the UK were supporting the Tamil Tigers, and the refugees are 'Tigers', then perhaps they don't hate us.

The demonstrators burned an effigy of Foreign Secretary David Miliband, pelted the compound with rotten eggs and stones and sprayed graffiti. They carried placards with slogans reading "Hands off Sri Lanka, we are not your colony" and describing Mr Miliband as a "White Tiger".

Really, how many do we have? And do you really think that all Tamils from Sri Lanka are terrorists?

Do you yourself know the exact number? It is a fact that we do have enough terrorists now, even just one would be one too many.

In answer to your last pointless question, of course not, but as I have said before that if some wish to harm us, then it is only logical for some to be.

to be fair, we should take refugees from both sides and allow them to fight it out here, possibly at the Emirates stadium since the Emirates are not far from Sri Lanka.
Regardless of whether we can cope with the refugees resulting from the Sri Lankan strife or not, our ancestors are to blame, as usual, and we are left to carry the can. Just one more of the many examples of (us) misusing peoples from the colonies and then complaining when we later reap the rewards. Tea planters wanted cheap labour for the plantations so they imported labour from southern India = trouble!! Catholics were too many in Eire so import a few Protestants from Scotland = trouble!! Create a state for Jews in the Middle East = trouble!! etc etc. hth

Couldn't get enough of our own country men to take up some jobs, so import people from the rest of the world = TROUBLE, TROUBLE, TROUBLE
BIG TROUBLE.

You have to extrapolate. So Britain gets more immigrants. As they all get jobs, they all pay taxes, and so contribute to the state purse. As time goes by, the majority of state benefits will be paid by BME, except that by then the White people will be the minority and supported by the BME, because mark it well, BME is not a quantitive thing, it is a qualitative thing, and stated simply is "Black is Best" and the whites have to pay for us. Small price to pay however for the huge benefits the immigrants bring to Britain.

Have a wander around Brixton, see what you think, there are masses of high-tech industries springing up there.
So with your rather impressive logic AOG, all Irish immigrants are terrorists and hate us.

Lets face it, the people who have been forced out of their homes due to a civil war do not hate us. All they want (as the majority of any people all around the world) is to have a roof over their heads, food in their stomach and if possible some extras.

Despite what you think (and in a similar way to the populous of this country), most people don;'t hate anyone - they just want to survive and make their existence as pleasant as possible.
These refugees have not been expelled from the country but just from their homes. Now the Tamil Tigers are defeated and the leader been killed they can just return to their shacks or makeshift housing to rebuild.

I would like to live in SriLanka. Not in the North, where the trouble has been, but in the Western Province, which is actually in the South West.

The place is stunning and the people are so friendly. I'm back there Feb 2010, can't wait.

I never wanted to start another immigration debate. The UK should be able to cope. With the arrival of over a million Gurkha's, another few thousand refugees shouldn't make any difference.
If the government doesn't do anything about all this emigration, it looks that the BMP will have a future after all.
I like jno's idea... We could have a roman circus with real lions and recreate great battles in history at the O2 arena. It'd be epic.

Where have I ever said this? or is just another example of the vastly over exaggerations that you and others use to try and demean a person?

Fair enough, but they don't have to come as far as Britain to gain this.
