From one who objects to being forced to pay a direct tax in order to watch that box in the corner - irrespective of how much BBC content i view ...

..... Message to the Editor of the Daily Telegraph Will you please make efforts to procure , next , a disc of the expenses of the BBC staff .

This is in order that we can see that the next inflation busting increase in the licence fee is justified .

I caught the end of someone being intervied on one of the news channels , late the other night - who stated tnat he had been informed by BBC journalists that there is a lot of waste going on at the Cooperation .
I'm not suprised , when there also appears , for example , to be a lot of duplication - head of news for this area - head of news for that area , etc .etc

Is anyone else of the same opinion ?

Ok just got back from lunch. Ok Bertie you do watch/listen to the BBC. So really you are saying. Why do I have to pay for a service I use? I think you know the answer! So you actually want to use it free and have it funded by everyone else? is that correct? Or are you saying you want to abolich the BBC entirely? mmm is that the sound of the penny dropping I hear?

I got cable last year can now receive dozens of channels on my TV. The cable provides a very good picture but the vast majority of the channels provide c**p.
BBC 1, 2 and 4 are worth paying for the licence AND the cable cost. Then there is Radio 4 and BBC local stations.
I watched a few minutes of ITV the other day. Bill and Ben, or whatever they call themselves, presenting Britain's Got No Talent. That is a level of 'entertainment' that is too low for me. Trouble is, other channels can reach lower depths and we NEED the BBC to combat this trash.

Where have I said any of the above ?

I pay my television licence therefore I watch watch BBC and listen to BBC radio .

If for example you had to subscribe to BBC output , then at least I have that choice , to choose ; and i probably would subscraibe to the bbc BUT that would be my choice .

At the moment I'm told - if you want to watch ANY channels , then I must pay the BBC a fee to do so .

Is that clear enough ?

On here at least.

The vast majority seem to support the way the BBC is funded and think that if it was changed we'd all be the worse for it.

I think a referendum would probably reflect this (although probably less strongly)

Seriously, people are always on her slagging off this country saying that it's going down the pan.

abundantly, you have said the same thing many times and not acknowledged or addressed any of the points made by others, you therefore invite speculation about your position. So can you tell me on planet Berti how would this work? The way I understand you currently is this:

1. As I now have to pay for the BBC I may as well watch
2. I'd rather not have to do that and if I was given the choice I would choose not to pay and not to watch.

please set out what would be the perfect scenario for you.

You want to change the way they are funded which would cripple public service broadcasting.

Some of their best content would not be commercially viable and would therefore go.

I call that Torpedoing - whether or not it is intentional is beside the point the effect would be the same.

And your original question seems to provide enough evidence to conclude that it's because you object to paying what is really a pretty small amount of money for it.

In terms of promoting Britishness, British values and our reputation around the world, the BBC World Service and the BBC website are worth the license fee alone. Every other country in the world are envious of the BBC.

Just to clarify my original post .
No jake , the amount is irrelevant - it is the principle , in this particular case

I pay a lot more to other providers for media services/ entertainment ; than I do for the BBC licence fee .

Having a range of TV channels and radio stations which are essentially commercial free is worth the licence fee alone. Then you have some of the superb documentary output, particularly Planet Earth and South Pacific, unrivalled by any commercial outfit is a huge bonus.
My only concern is the sneaking suspicion that they are overbloated in the backroom management/administration department, and love management speak a little too much.
One of my fave columns in Private Eye used to be Birtspeak :)

This question has certainly sparked off some response.

I don't know whether or not this has been mentioned, but the BBC is looking to close the loophole which allows non-licence fee payers to watch programmes on iPlayer.
