Yes, albeit a junior minister, it still doesn't bode well for the PM, although I have a sneaky suspicion that he's not about to throw in the towel easily.
The problem from Labour's point of view is that they don't have anyone of sufficient clout and charisma to take over despite David Cameron's desperation for someone, anyone, to do just that.

You make a valid point, paraffin. I can't see anyone even wanting the job, knowing they will get trounced at the next election. It just seems sad for the country to be lumbered with a lame duck PM when we really need a strong leader to lead us out of recession.

He will stay till next may...then hold an election, and wipe the floor with empty headed Cameron, who talks in cliches and has no policies:this will all be revealed folks in may when he, Cameron, will have to reveal what he stands for and what he proposes to do.So far he sounds like an empty advert . The tories keep saying it,s time for change...where did he get that from eh? but change to what!! They will not say for they do not know.It,s tory puff and bluff. A change in leadership could prompt call that an General Election must be called.

As we have seen, this is a bad time for Labour MPs to be facing the electorate.

It's only chance is to wait another year before the next election and hope the economy has turned around and fraudulent MPs expenses are forgotten.

They probably would still lose, but not as greatly as they would if an election was called now.

This scenario is based on Labour MPs having any sense, so I am not holding my breath.

Gordon Brown with stay on till next May ,go to the polls and trounce emptyheaded Cameron ,who will then retire to oblivion.The vote might have been anti-labour but it wasnt ,pro- tory. Cameron,s an empty vessel...he talks,but says nothing,even when he reads his notes.He,s a vacuum. He talks like an advert.Meaningless tripe ,devoid of anything constructive.He,s a bluffer and it will all be revealed at election time, when he will have tosay what he is going to do and what his policies are.Cameron,s an empty vessel full of sound and fury

It is not so much the Labour Party itself and its policies that are rubbish but Gordon Brown being a weak Prime Minister. If a General Election was called now, then Labour would lose and what would we get? A Conservative Government led by a weak, shallow, policyless, jump on any bandwagon David Cameron. Best for Labour to get a new leader quickly and hope for things to turn round within a year. David Cameron is frightened to death that is what they will do.
