My Son has recently been terminated from his plumbing firm for lack of work. He had quite an easy going relationship with his boss who has been paying his national insurance and income tax over the last six years. It has to be said though there has been an abscence of p60s and wage slips. My Son thought nothing of this. He has gone to sign on at the Job Centre to be told that the contributions have not been paid by his Boss since 2006. It was a small firm and the managers attention to paperwork was non existent. I wonder where my Son stands if he was of the assumption - quite rightly - that this person was paying his contributions when it transpires that he was not.
Baraqua says there's an absence of P60's and wage slips tamb, so there's no proof that her son was ever working for this person.
For a start, I'd write to the boss, asking about things. Keep any replies, as that'd prove that there'd been contact. Then contact the Job Centre again, and show them anything that might suggest there'd been employment.
Thanks for those replies guys it would appear the boss has just decided not to pay, he was coming home with approx �240 per wk and the contributions have not been paid for the last 2.5 years, wonder how much that would equate to for the boss to repay both in NI and tax. Its a bad situation really, it shows what can happen when you take things for granted
You say for 6y work, yet unpaid for 2.5y? Your son has no proof of IR withdrawals and could be charged for arrears. Employer will have accounts pored over by IR & fined heavily if found at fault. Could bring down his business? :(
