Engine cuts out when in neutral

hi, i have a 1.2 8v renault clio 99 model... its done 135ooo miles and i dont know whether its to do with the age of the car or something else but sometimes when im in neutral the engine just dies and cuts out. the revs go down below 500 and it cuts out. sometimes it restarts straight away but other times it takes 6 -7 goes before i can get it running again. does anyone know why this happens? many thanks

Assuming the car as been serviced religiously.
Then you can rule out spark plugs, fuel filter, air cleaner etc.
If you are experiencing any misfire proir to cutting out, have the coil pack and HT leads looked at.
