"Sharia Penal Codes Would Benefit Britain"
So says a leading Muslim of the Islamic Sharia Council who presides over a Court in east London dealing with Sharia Law matters.
Who agrees, or disagrees, with his claims?
Is Britain gradually coming to accept such forms of "justice"?
Would it be a good or a bad thing for Britain?
N.B. These are not necessarily my views. I'm interested to know what others think.(Just before people misunderstand me - again).

I loved this quote on AB yesterday...
Sharia law is already practised in the UK although mainly in secret. Headless bodies are littering our countryside.
I expect similar nonsense to be posted on this thread.

I guess you wouldn't be head of the Islamic Sharia Council if you didn't think Sharia law was a good thing would you.
Bit like a news flash BNP thinks immigration isn't beneficial to the country
Imagine my surprise.
But back to Sharia law - apparently it would work as a deterrent.
Presumably the same way that the death penalty acts as a deterrent in the US.
Someone needs to talk to Sheikh Suhaib Hasan and explain in words of one sylable that deterrents do not work if people don't think they are going to get caught..
I should imagine that there are very few knife crimes, murders or thefts from cookie jars where the purpetrator fully expects to be apprehended.
Once again people focus on punishment and not detection - I guess it's more satisfying to wield the sword of righteous anger that the magnifying glass of tedious investigation.

Except Jake in this country when the old bill do pull their finger out and catch them some wishy washy pinko liberal lets them out with a pathetic sentence.
Sentences are not just a deterant, although if you steal twice and are caught it will be very difficult to do again, they are also about societies retribution for a wrong doing.
In your qote in the US, perhaps killing would go up if there was no retrubution or are you saying it would stay the same level ?
Gromit, do you think perhaps the poster may have put that up a bit tongue in cheek ?
Sahria law is for a medieval religion where there were no newspapers so punishment needed to be such that all could see easily what happens. Hence hands off, stonings floggings etc.
To answer you question I believe somewhere in the middel is best. Our system certainly doesnt work at the minute.

It was in a thread about a Saudi woman fearing she would be stoned to death. It doesn't read as though it is tongue in cheek, or mean't for amusemnt but it is possible I suppose. Here is the full post, unedited.
Sharia law is already practised in the UK although mainly in secret. Headless bodies are littering our countryside. Whose to say whether she is safe here. We do a lot of business with the Saudis and they have many contacts here. She would be safer in the US.

Don't be so timid paraffin, please don't be afraid to state your views, just in case some on this site misunderstand you.
It happens to me all the time, but eh! who cares?

Another example of Shariah Law.
Can you imagine this taking place in this country?

Chuckling at your first answer. Alright, just for you, my opinion is that there are certain elements of Sharia Law which do appeal and other aspects of it which abhor me.
Put it this may, another-view's opinion is shared by me. The only thing is, can you imagine the extra strain on the NHS by having to provide so many prosthetic(is that the right word?)hands?, and heads?(Just joking!)

Chopping a thief's/burglar's/robber's hand off would be a start.
Followed by public floggings for shoplifters.
I'm not sure if the next bit applies but castration for kiddy fiddlers would also be most acceptable.
Disembowellment for rapists, particularly of the elderly.
Public stonings for drugs pushers.
As I've said on other threads, there are also things about Sharia Law which I'm totally against, i.e. oppression of women.
Apart from the above, I'm quite a liberal, really(hee hee).

Tony Blair has not heeded the advice of Tacitus. The great historian warned that "the more numerous the laws, the more corrupt the state." In the past decade, the Labour Government has pumped out 3,000 new laws - one for every day in power. Impersonating a traffic warden; selling a grey squirrel; detonating a nuclear bomb - these have all, comfortingly, become illegal.
More laws mean more transgressions. More transgressions mean more people criminalised by the state. As a result, our prisons are bursting.

Before I say something else I must say that I can't see Shria Law implemented here in the foreseeable future. Because 100% Shria law is not practised even in any Muslim country.
Then Sharia law is not only about chopping hand or head. Long before that government must make every effort to eradicate reasons for people to commit that crime. In other words if a hungry person steals bread then according to Sharia his hand should not chopped off and instead society and people in power should be questioned that why a person was so desperate that he had to steal food. However if you have no such reason and still you steal then the things are different.
Jake always gives example of USA but one thing he forgets that first of all in USA all the murderers do not get death penalty. Then Islam uses punishment as deterrence so someone given a lethal injection in isolation would only be known to his family and friends at the most. Yes it may sound barbaric but Islam believes in public punishment and in the local area of the offender. So people around him should see with their own eyes that what happened to Harry, Dick and George they knew as a person above the law.
And I have said this before and offer is still open for anyone. Come with me (I will pay for travel and accommodation) for a whole month in Saudi Arabia and show me how many people would you see with one hand missing (leave the one with missing head). On the other hand I would show you what is the result of this deterrence. Shops with as much gold as you would find in whole city's shops here do not need time delayed lock or a gun man and they even go for prayer leaving shutter half down only.
I know what few would say to me know.

Yes, you probably do Keyplus, and I'll be the first. You're persistently critical of just about everything the western world does, so if Sharia Law and the way of life in Islamic nations is so admirable, why do you choose to live here? (I've asked you before why you live here, and although I'm not a gambling woman, I'm willing to bet that if you are courteous enough to give an answer to this question, it won't be the same one you gave the last time).
I can't get into the link but to answer the question, it's an horrendous proposal. It wouldn't benefit Britain and it most certainly wouldn't benefit any woman - British or otherwise.
