Why do Muslims feel the need to force......
...their views on everyone? The Nigerian ones at the moment are demanding an end to western values etc. They are free to follow their religion, why is it so important to them that others be forced to do the same? Why can they not just quietly follow their own religion and leave others alone. It's as if any differing views are in someway so offensive to them that they must be converted or eliminated. Is their position so weak it cannot stand debate or dissent?

Your post sent me wondering if Nigeria is our next detination to send in the troops. We have more to lose there because of the National Oil Companies including Shell. We are never going to defeat al qaeda as they're like a recurring pimple that goes away and returns when unexpected.
That should put a few $s on the oil price.

Islam had reached what is now Nigeria by the ninth century and took hold in the eleventh. Christianity arrived five hundred years later and it was not until the eighteenth century that missionaries became interested in the country.
Unless I'm mistaken, the missionaries and the British who followed, did not think much about the Muslims nor those who followed indigenous beliefs and there was no debate about it

The only way to stop it, is to have tolerance from all faiths and beliefs, but this won't happen. However, individuals can make their mark, and lead by example.
I have some Muslim friends who're very honest, decent people. They don't question my beliefs, and I don't question theirs. We just appreciate the differences, and then get on with our lives amicably.
There's no need to despise someone just because of their religion, and I can think of a lot worse for "pushing" their ideas at us than Muslims - e.g. Jehovah's Witnesses. More's the pity we can't all live peacefully side by side.

keyplus90.....western countries/civilisations dont 'force' their way of life on others (proved in the sub-continent who maintained their cultures during Brit occupation).
Just as none are not 'forced' to live in UK! However, when leaders like Idi Amin threw out asians from Africa, India & Pakistan refused to repatriate them and it was left to UK & Canada to home them or the asians there would have been brutally murdered.
R1Geezer....equivalent of 'crusade' is 'jihad' in islamic.
It's written in the Koran that 'infidels' (non muslims) be killed. In the Bible it's written 'walk away from non-believers'!
Islamics are instructed to kill whereas Christians are instructed to walk away.

Well said tamborine and I think that settles many of the points posed in reply to the original question.Christians to my knowledge don't wager war on any other religion no matter however extreme.
And christian missionaries never tried to impose their views on any other culture in the world only offered them another choice.
Yet here there are certain Islamic groups who strive to impose both their customs and their law on UK citizens.

"This proselytization will mean no peace in the world. Conversions are harmful to India. If I had the power and could legislate I should certainly stop all proselytizing ... It pains me to have to say that the Christian missionaries as a body, with honorable exceptions, have actively supported a system which has impoverished, enervated and demoralized a people considered to be among the gentlest and most civilized on earth" GANDHI

Never heard of The Crusades?
