For what reason would this happen?

So, you're driving down the M3 near Luton, and you see a number of Sikh women and kids on the hard shoulder standing away from a coach which is on fire.

Do you

a) pull over to see if you can help
b) slow down to rubber neck
c) hurl racist abuse at them, telling them to "get back on the bus"

Sikhs never get in the news, and are quietly integrated...so could someone explain why they would be subjected to this kind of abuse?

Does it back up my supposition that bigots are basically evil who deserve the sobrique 'filth'?

Did the passers by hurl abuse at you and make rude gestures?
The video report is here.

I suspect that some of the abusers thought a bomb had gone off, maybe a suicide bomber. Not excusing the bad behaviour though.
tambourine, I think perhaps you've missed the point. I don't think anyone is saying it's racist not to stop! But it is racist to hurl abuse at them. Quite different than your situation.
The video reports of abuse - so yes, no excuse. However, there is a field behind the bushes and the bus passengers should have gone their for safety......had they done so, they wouldn't have heard abuse.

In my case, there was no escape off the verge. I was rescued by the police though - 4hours later.

Ava, many thanks fir explaining that to tambourine...I wasn't sure how to phrase an answer there.

Personally, my reaction would've been to pull over to the hard shoulder to see whether there was still anyone on board. This was a serious fire. It melted the tarmac, so you would've seem it from some distance.

The thing that I find disgusting more than anything else is a) it wasn't just one driver who hurled abuse and b) they actually slowed down to do it! I imagine they wanted to ensure these women and kids could hear them over the roar of the taffic.

Thank God people like that are in a minority (and on the fringes of society).
I agree with Elvis and I think this story comes down to the Governments fault of being to lenient with letting in to many immigrants.
Not that the people involved on the motorway were illegal, its just that the British people are getting fed up of our country being invaded by every Tom Dick and Harry who come here to take advantage of our generous benefits.

I wonder how many of them on the coach has contributed to the UK funds but expect 1st class service from the NHS etc?

So I blame the Government for not keeping a tight control on the borders and checking who comes in and allowed a visa etc, we are to soft in this Country and the sooner Mr Brown goes the better.

I am not racist, just concerned about my Country.
It's a lesson to all of us to make sure that our children grow up with decent values and learn to respect others, because if not, the next few generations are going to end up even worse than some of the bigots and idiots that're around already.
So you`d have boarded a burning bus?

Not a wise move
Don't forget the actions of the driver who saved everyone!
This type of thing has happened before

L0L ELVIS,
one of my favourite OFAH.
Elvis - the audience laughed.....no asians in the audience?

These stories are sensationalised in the Indian & pakistan press - like the shilta case, for propaganda against UK.

They probably got abuse for going to Weymouth....everyone who's anyone knows Scarborough is THE seaside!
I don't think I would have stopped on a motorway to help, even if I'd been in the left hand land; it's not easy. But throwing abuse at anyone is pretty distasteful.

Gotta admire tamborine's advice for immigrants, though: you should always hide behind bushes, then you won't be abused. British racism sorted!
The M3 is no-where near Luton...

Tell me about it!

It would seem that there's a certain section of the population who actually blame immigrants even when those at fault are scummy Brits who don't have a shred of common decency.

Glad I opened this thread...but now I have no further comment to make on the subject. I've seen it all.

Quite despicable behaviour by some of the passing motorists. I am unable to fathom the logic of one poster who blames the government and almost excuses the foul mouthed scum as a result.
Having told this story to many people about passers by telling them to get back on the coach, guess what...they laughed....does that make them racist?

Do you really think people wanted them to get back on the coach?

I think you`re annoyed because this story wasn`t as blown up as the coach
