Even if she did 'show you hers' as you so elegantly and sensitively put it, that is, in itself, no real indication of gender. 'Intersex' conditions exist that don't affect the external appearance of the genitals.

I'm no expert on this, but surely it is much more complex than just look see. It must involve hormone tests etc. It's not always completely black or white.
