Ted Kennedy
Does anyone else find it sickening the way people have forgot about the dirty dealings of this man, in the weekend papers and todays "The last of the Kennedy Dynasty"
The old man, Joe Kennedy hated the British with a passion, while JFK was an all American good-looker but a womaniser never the less, and dear old Bobby, allegedly was linked to the "mob"
Lest we forget, Ted Kennedy left a young woman to die, Mary Jo Kopechne rather than face up to him also playing the field, the families assetts were from ill gotten gain namely organised crime, so I, for one, can't go all mushy on the departure of the last Kennedy!

Those who want a very balanced view of the man should read his obituary in The Economist this week. He was a great (liberal) senator and advocate for the downtrodden, etc etc, and a terrible person in many respects.
And, speaking as an American (but not for all Americans!), it would be a mistake to say that "Americans feel" in any way about him or the Kennedys in general (there are too many of us to just have one opinion!) I was in Boston over the weekend and you'd think the man was a saint from the press coverage. Coverage in the rest of the country was much more balanced, not hesitating to point out most of the flaws of the Kennedy clan going back to papa Joe (most already mentioned here).

Joy....once went to a Caledonian Society dinner, all went normally until after dinner when they suddenly took off their normal looking shoes and put on some "pufty" looking coloured slippers tied up with coloured tape around their lower legs and then started screaming and throwing themselves around the room, arms flaying.
After a few single malts, they started slagging of England and saying how mush better Scotland was and how much they missed the homeland.
When I suggested that their problem could be solved by bu99ering off back home, a fight almost ensued.
Have a good holiday.

hank you dr b for your balanced view, Boston is a very Irish-American part of the USA isn't it, so no doubt they will see the Kennedys as one of their own which is fair game, I adit I don't know of the work he's done with the downtrodden, but it would be fair to say the man had blood on his hands and therefor it could have been a guilty concience
