Should Mr Singh have joined the Police Service, or is this just another example of grabbing a ride on the compensation gravy train?

Apart from the compensation aspect this is another example where tolerant Britain has made a rod for it's own back, by making separate provisions to fit in with all the different races and religions.

In this instant he is demanding that he doesn't don protective riot head gear, or even an official police badge on his turban.

He alleged he was 'coerced' into walking through a petrol fire, despite telling trainers about a flammable gel he had applied to his beard.

Is this gel also a religious necessity?

Of course he is claiming racial and religious discrimination, which could lead to a £200,000 payout.and he is being backed by the British Sikh Police Association.

The "British Sikh Police Association"? this is a new one on me. Still no chance of a "White British Church of England Police Association I suppose?

The officer said he suffers panic attacks and high blood pressure as a result and may resign from the force.

I would think this would be best for all. before he demands to wear the full outfit.

"It's a perfectly valid simile". No, it isn't. It's a totally unnecessary use of gutter language which has no place here.

This post has nothing to do with race, it has to do with someone's alleged religious beliefs taking priority over his duties and conduct as a Police Officer. There is a clear conflict about it and my view on it is that this guy's obviously...

AOG......LOL LOL LOL....best today.

P.S Do you have bald Sikhs and if so do they wear turbans?
Tell you what AOG, I wish we had a "we are coppers let's nick some bleeding villains" police association!

Why did he apply a flammable gel to his beard ?
This man is a hero. Could you join the police and put up with dealing with what the police have to handle on a daily basis.

You should thank each and everyone one of them for keeping you safe, whilst you sit comfortably in your armchairs, pontificating.

I rate coppers up there with nurses, fireman and the forces. However, I accept this is a bizarre story, especially as I know of two Sikh coppers in Islington, who are well respected in the local community and don't seem to have any uniform issues.

But bravo to you for rooting out an anti-Sikh story. Makes a change!

Enjoy you metaphorical race hard on.
I see the Police Federation of England and Wales has a Constables' National Police Womens' Representative. They do not seem to have one for the men, how can that be correct? Is that not outrageous?????

It's a perfectly valid simile.

I'm sure AOG would agree that he feels a frission of excitement when he sees a story regarding race, because they always result on a robust debate.

And let's not put words into my mouth. I can say that someone is obsessed with all matters racial WITHOUT, implying they're racist.

In the same way that a black/Asian person can bring up questions about race without being told 'they have a chip on their shoulder'.
is the british sikh police association the minority?!

The episode with the Sikh PC is nothing new. Didn't we have a case recently where a Muslim M&S worker employed to stack shelves refused to stack wines & spirits.

I would have thought by now the recruiting process for people from ethnic minority groups would point out to them the things they could be doing if they are successful in gaining employment. The Sikh PC should have given assurance he would wear a helmet if his duties necessatated it. If he wouldn't give this assurance he should have been turned down as unable to do the job. I know this could have still ended up in court as a racial discrimination case but that just goes to prove how stupid our laws have become.

These laws need complete overhaul.

I applied a flammable gel to my beard once. It caught fire and I ended up with just a pair of sideburns.
Brrrmmm. Tish. (
Y'know, I'm almost certain I've seen modified turbans for sikh police officers somewhere around....

Plus if there's allready a Sikh Police Association, then that implies that plenty of sikhs have joined the force without any qualms.

The guy is being an ass. That's about all there is to this story.
^^ Agreed.
