With all the furore over the employment of illegal immigrants as house keepers etc, I wonder how many of our M.Ps employ British born people in their homes?
The words practice and preach spring to mind.
Have you ever tried to find a Brit willing to clean your loo? I have, and failed. Basically, Aussies and Kiwis for baby minding and Colombians for cleaning is how it's panned out over the years. I've never checked anyone's residential status. If they're prepared to work, I'm prepared to pay them. They've all been hard-working, cheerful and good at their job. (And I haven't employed them because they're cheap, I've always paid fair wages.)
Funnily enough no I haven't.
I'm not having a dig at immigrant labour, I'm just wondering if politicians (of all hues) employ British born people, do they hire their home helps from an agency?
If they don't, then they (none of em) have any right to try and make political capital out of the subject.
Well, seeing as most of them employ their immediate family, I guess they must largely employ British people.
You can't really fault them on that everton.
jno....and there lies the problem ....quote..''if they are prepared to work im prepared to pay them''...''ive never checked anyones residential status''.....how irresponsible is that?? i employ people biy i ALWAYS check that 1....they are legally here and 2...that they have LEGAL n.i numbers...you might pay fair wages to THEM but do you pay the MINIMUM WAGE???...you are the reason why this country is in such a state...if you look for a brit that is willing to clean your loo then you will find a cleaner...but at a fair price eh?????
yes, always paid the minimum wage, stokemaveric (or more). I was never much concerned about keeping NI bureaucrats in work, but I saw no reason to rip off the people working in my house. 123everton is right to ask if politicians practise what they preach, though; I dare say Baroness Scotland would have thrown me in jail for my wicked ways.
asked friends, asked in pubs, put notices in shop windows (but in the end I think most of those who worked for us came via personal recommendations and contacts). I didn't specify Brits; but none of those who responded, or who were recommended, were Brits. Could be just coincidence, of course.
It`s wrong to employ someone to clean your loo, if it`s a business then fair enough, but to employ someone to clean your own toilet is immoral and degrading
Elvis, it was short-hand for 'clean my house'. I'm asthmatic and find it hard work so I used to get others to do it. But I can't say I find it immoral. Is it immoral to take your car to the garage rather than trying to fix it yourself?
....your foreign pensioner does a better job as well, unlike your lazy Brit pensioner who thinks being old is beneath him. The ones from dirt poor countries are best - they're grateful to still be alive you see.
When kids go into their garden they get showered with Werther's originals instead of just being chased off with a stick.
