Is this really the Shop's fault?

Should this boy have been swinging on a rail inside the supermarket? Is it not the fault of the parents in charge, who are now suing Somerfields. Personally I think too many children run around supermarkets misbehaving and causing havoc. A very sad story.

I sympathize with the parents for their loss, but, I would lend all my support to the supermarket. It's a place of business and not a playground.

My partner was at a restaurant a while back when a child DID knock into a waiter and the food went everywhere. The childs father was about to have a go at the waiter, when all the men in the restaurant stood up at the same time to have a go at him. The father soon sat down. We see so many incidents now days with children running riot. It is the parents fault, they have no control over them. Or just plain don't care.
If it is the railings in the photo, then it looks like they are there to stop children running out the shop straight into the car park - maybe they should be removed and then the shop could be sued for kids being run over in the car park.
A tragic accident it appears unless the railing was faulty and could be seen to be faulty, I can't see where the shop has been negligent.

I tried to avoid supermarket shopping when my boys were toddlers (16 months apart) but if i HAD to take them, one would be in the seat and other would be helping me push the trolley.
I still hate seeing other kiddiewinks using the aisles as slides etc etc
I don't want to accidentally bump into a charming child with my trolley. I'd like to look for the produce I'm needing not look out for obstacles.
Smudge :D

This is a very tragic accident but no one should be ued. If I'd lost a child I don't think I'd be emotionally capable of suing anyone, it must be a long complicated process. Wherever there are railings, bars, walls...in fact anything 'climb-able' small children will attempt to do it, it's up to parents to lead them away by the hand.
I got stuck (for a minute or two) in a playhouse in ToysRUs last year....I wonder whether my sons would have sued the shop if I'd injured myself? - I never had one as a child, I wanted to know what it was like inside. :o) Apologies for making light in a serious thread Lottie!

Oh dear Robinia!! Were you on your own in Toys R Us or were you being looked after by a grandchild? Remind me not to go into any supermarkets when you are about in case you fancy doing wheelies in the trolleys!!
Obviously no 'Budgens' your way Smudge

We lost ours several years ago - the only town centre supermarket, and it was useless!!
We now have a Budgens Local. I had never thought about the name before!!! I am now going to Morrisons - somewhat later than planned.

Can just imagine Robinia! ;o}
(I often whizz down the slide when taking the young ones to the park - but only if it's empty)!
I have spotted 'Budgens' stores before Lottie, but usually within a petrol garage.
Our eldest daughter has a Morrisons a short drive from her house & it's really good, with lots of bargains!

We don't have much choice, either Morrisons or a really small Tesco. I just don't like Tescos at all. Yes Morrisons is good and has some real bargains on food - on the food you really need rather than on items you wouldn't usually buy. Also excellent for fish and meat with butchers and fresh fishmongers in store. Just five minutes by car for me. Still haven't made it down there yet today!! Just off now.
Back from Sainsbury's - feel a bit better now! Must be the aroma of the lamb joint/garlic cooking in the oven!
D'ya know, I can't stand Tesco's either Lottie! We have a superstore a few mintues drive from here, but I avoid it like the plague!
I'd love to go back to the 'olden' days - popping out each day for fresh food, rather than stocking up in overbearing noisy supermarkets & not using half of what's in the cupboard or freezer! I much prefer the personal service you used to get, rather than goods trundling along a lookalike assembly line! ;o}
