Can an employer force you to work whilst being video recorded?

Does an employer need my consent to video record my working practices?

Under the current climate and the way my employer is treating myself and my colleagues, I do not want to help them.

The purpose of recording is not for \\\'monitoring\\\' or security. It isn\\\'t really for training. Its part of the Lean Manufacturing initiative that the company is taking.

I have been recorded twice in the past, to my discomfort, and they are telling me I HAVE to do it again, or it will \\\"get messy\\\".

If I refuse, can they take any action?

I am in a union, but I would like some outside advice.

A strange sounding question. But is this video being recored directly onto a hard drive or being transferred to a computer and stored? You may find something under the data protection act.

I am a machine operator. My job involves sheet metal processing.

The purpose of the video is basically time-in-motion. But as I have already been recorded doing the same job 9 months ago, I don't see why I should do another. Especially since no improvements have been made since the last one.

I am not the only operator who has said no, but I'm the only one being 'strong-armed' probably because I'm the youngest operator on site.

As for the recording media, I think it is recorded onto a DVD within the camera.

UPDATE!

Apparently if you refuse to be filmed, there is nothing they can do about it. It has been shelved now and a paper-based system has been put in place.
