HMV did not do this out of any altruistic mtoive. They wanted to sell CDs and make money. That being so, they should have a license just like anyone else. If the council turned a blind eye, what will they say next time a pub or club is found not to have a valid licence.
HMV are the ones to blame here, they should have applied for the licence beforehand,or retrospectively as they were offered....at the huge cost of £21.00.

I do not support this action as I live nowhere near Kettering and couldn't give a stuff either way.
But, if every other establishment in Kettering have to buy a £21 license to play live music, why should this shop be exempt. And if the Council did turn a blind eye, why would every other establishment bother paying it next year.
The law is the law. If you think HMV should not have had to pay £21 (they made a profit of £61.3million this year) then every local business should be exempt.
