My husband works at a place which is basically open all year round. A few of them have to work on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day for a few hours. As Boxing Day falls on a Saturday this year and the Monday is a "in lieu of " day for all us "normal" people who work Monday to Friday (!!), what would happen in my husband's place? Would the Saturday (Boxing Day) be classed as a normal Saturday and the Monday classed as the bank holiday? They're not even sure themselves at his work so any advice gratefully appreciated! Ta!

Monday is classed as national bank holiday.

So do you think they should still work shorter hours on Boxing Day (as its still Boxing Day) and whatever hours they'd normally work on a bank holiday on the Monday?
Best speak to HR. Our HR department communicates Christmas working instructions. We do not have Saturday working so cannot comment on companies that do. Sorry!
Where I used to work saturday was part of our working pattern so when Christmas fell on the saturday anyone who was listed to work that day was paid as working bank holiday (treble time or double time and a day in leiu where I worked). The monday was treated as a normal working day. Anyone not listed to work was given a day off in lieu. to be taken when they wished (obviousley with the agreement of the company)
It's up to the firm to decide how to play it - there's no law that says they MUST do one thing or the other.
