//The government's controversial broadband tax has been given the green light by chancellor Alistair Darling in his pre-Budget report.

The £6 a year levy will be imposed on all households with a fixed line phone.
The money made will be put into a fund to ensure rural areas of the UK do not miss out on super-fast broadband services.//

If they want super-fast broadband, why can't they move to a town or city. Why do I have to fork out for them? Can we have a reciprocal 'Scenic view tax' and 'Fresh Air Tax' levied on country folk so I can have a park outside my front window?

Seriously, is this fair?

I can answer Yes to all your questions. I do not see why that means I should subsidise installing broadband in your area.

There are benefits to living in a town or city. There are benefits to living in the country, but super-fast broadband isn't one of them.

Maps on the iPhone does not need wifi to work, it will work on the 3G network perfectly fine. This tax is not to install public wifi hotspots in the country, which I would support, it is about connecting individuals to broadband.
I wouldnt expect anything else of Noo Labour.

And dont expect it to reach where they say, by the time they have hired an army of civil servants to monitor it there wil be nothing left, so it will then rise to £60 a year.

And this from a Government that wnated everyone to have it in their home

Same Government that encouraged Diesel cars then clobbered them ?
