why is he being slaughtered for killing and eating a rat. i remember not long ago Gordon Ramsey on one of his programmes shot a rabbit and cut its tummy and shook out the insides and cooked it, why didn't he get slaughtered for doing that, surely that was cruel aswell.....

I presume that the difference is that one was done in Australia, and one was done in the UK.

From a police spokesman: "There is a code of conduct in New South Wales that dictates how animals can be used. The killing of a rat for a performance is not acceptable."

I don't know of any such code in the UK
I think the problem arose because the rat was a pet one. From what I read it was a tame one released into the camp to give the camp members the heebi jeebies. Gino caught it thinking it was vermin and cooked it. Quite how Gino was supposed to know this is anyones guess!
Gotta say, I feel like congratulating the animal rights lobby for showing they care about animals that aren't cute for once.
I never watch that programme so I only heard about this. I can't see how killing and eating anything can be called a 'performance'.
Whilst I wouldn't have eaten it, if I had seen a rat i would certainly have tried to kill it.
scotman- I consider your actions (if they arose- obviously) worse. At least they killed the rat for a purpose, to eat it. You'd have killed it just because you didn't like it!
Boo

It's not to do with not liking them. They are vermin and in the absence of knowledge that it was a 'planted' rat it is reasonable to assume it wasn't and for it to be a carrier of Weil's disease and various other stuff.
I also don't dislike the mice that i occasionally find in my home but i do what I can to get rid of them. What do you do?
"There is a code of conduct in New South Wales that dictates how animals can be used. The killing of a rat for a performance is not acceptable."

I wonder if this is applicable to all the animals they kill for the bushtucker trials? Its not like the various disgusting animal parts are used for the good of the participants.
it doesn't apply because the wichety grubs and the rest of the entrails are on the 'approved' list of food stuffs that can be eaten for performance entertainement. the rat wasn't.

quike frankly i would have thought if the show was aimed at jungle survival, then anything that moved would be fair game for a nosh up. the only thing that didn't move was jordans forehead and lips.
Bear Grylls and Ray Mears would be right up sh1t creek! They're always eating things they catch. Ray mears blatantly caught and cooked a salmon once!
a salmon ? what a bastad.
next you'll be saying he ate some chicken at kfc. when will this cruelty end.
