well i woke up to a measured 5 inches of snow this morning

sat down with a cup of tea to catch the news, and guess what?

theres brown and his lackies smarming up to the press cameras at a climate change summit (aka global warming)

a worldwide case of emperors new clothes i think

The world can't be warming overall because it snowed today in eastern England.

Why is it so few people understand the significance of the word "global". A general increase in global temperatures (a reality which has been well recorded) will lead to climate change throughout the world, but not necessarily warmer everywhere. The only reason UK has such warm winters is because of the influence of the Gulf Stream (we're as far north as Moscow with it's much colder winters) - if this changes (which it may well do as a result of GLOBAL warming) then we will get even more snow.

But no, we have to listen to the ostriches parroting on about "oh dear, snow, so much for global warming".

Well, where I am (UK south coast) the sun's just come out - so by that token global warming is back :)

Global warming skeptics

Not the people you'd want to share a life boat with -

They'd be there complaining that there was no definative proof that it was leaking and even if it was it wasn't their fault and in any case bailing wouldn't help and nobody else was doing their fair share.

Oh I think I can fight my own spelling battles.

Thing is Kinell, democracy only works with informed opinions, and that in Science means being familliar with the data and being qualified to draw conclusions from it.

Otherwise it's like taking a vote on what the lottery numbers will be.

I don't consider myself qualified - I take my position from the advise of the leading scientific institutions.

It's a continual source of wonderment to me that so many people have firm opinions based on TV programs or Newspaper articles - or even stand up comics.

I guess it's a conspiracy theory - why do people like conspiracy theories ? It makes them feel clever, that their common sense has triumphed over people who think that they are so clever but in reality are not as clever as they are.

Probably why it's so attractive to the "University of Life" crew who despise "book learning"

I dont think it is called Global Warming anymore is it? its now called Climate Change because its not (warm) and it does (change)

It's called climate change because certain places could get colder whilst the overall planet gets hotter.

The classic example would be if the gulf stream packed up - although even the most pessemistic estimates have that about 100 years off last time I looked
