Paedophile fears - are they something simply stoked up by the press?

Have a look at this story:

http://www.dailymail....child-Streetview.html

According to the report,"The photos...have sparked fears that paedophiles will have a new way to search for photos or targets online."

In order to do this, the prospective paedophile would have to note down the car number, then contact an insider at the DVLA, who would supply the owner's address, and then stalk the family in order to gain access to the child.

Are our fears of kiddy-fiddlers unfounded, merely a device generated by the press to sell more copies? Or is the country genuinely peppered with potential child rapists?

I find the term "kiddy-fiddlers" quite offensive. it makes it sound like a fun pastime.

That is really really daft! Paedophiles seek children without the use of Google, its pathetic scare mongering.

Yes, the media are exaggerating their threats - see the question two up regarding the Daily Mail hopefully being sued by facebook
It is a different question but as for the realistic situation I don't think that we can hide all the kids, ban the camera, even ban and arrest parents for taking photo of their own kids. That is banging the wrong nail. Easiest and the most practical solution is to hang few of these people (if found guilty) and you wouldn't have to take too much hassle in changing everything else.
