both of my sons struggle to say what they think due to severe autism, my youngest son (9) has never spoken a word in his life although I can see his frustration when he wants something but cannot communicate his needs to us, the worse times is when they feel ill or are in pain and cannot tell you.

You have my heartfelt admiration for having the strength to bring up two boys with learning needs.

We grate from time to time but, on this occasion, my admiration for you is unqualified.
My son has mild autism....so I have always had the greatest respect for cazzzzzzzzz..!
my ex had a massive stroke at the age of 33, 12 years ago. he has speech problems and it still breaks my heart.
there is one answerbanker that most on here know who is in that situation.
cazzz, you're a star. happy mother's day to you :o) x
thanks guys, TWRs question about loss/lack of speech is very familiar, people underestimate what life can be like when you cannot vent your frustration or tell people how you feel. my sons hands are calloused because he used to bite his hands through frustration, he hasnt the capacity for picture communication or sign language/ makaton

mothers day has been another tiring day at t'mill, roll on a break on tuesday to play golf :)

Cazzz, I admire you, I have received some stick about my comments on here, but that's me I think what I say, , & I do say what I think, I work with people that has something of the same nature as your son & many others on here, the problem the public have, they are afraid of a condition that they do not know nothing about, I have found this In the house at work with 3 males. if the public try to understand instead of standing back they would understand what you and many more are going though. my thoughts are with you.
TWR please do not think I was being disrespectful to your question, I wasn't, I wasn't sure what it was about and feel very humbled indeed to hear some of the comments made, cazz I admire you greatly and anyone else who is facing such difficulties, you are special people who strive sometimes unnoticed in the hardships you endure.

I do agree TWR, to a large extent I have become a black sheep of the family because my children are not normal, the fear of the condition and some of the outwardly displayed stims (rocking, tapping, spinning, grimacing and they are the nicer stims lol)
unsettles most normal people who have never experienced mental disability.

when I see a group of special needs adults being guided around the supermarket I see people run a mile and avoid eye contact, I do think its sad because these people do have feelings and I think its a shame that most of the experience they have with the outside world is of people acting negatively towards them or noticably avoiding them, sadly this is likely to be my kids futures.

cazzz, I feel the same as you for my ex.

some people seem to shy away from anything perceived as not "normal", but I brought my kids up to understand that everyone is just another person. we're all shapes and sizes, we're all "different" but we're all just people.

Cazzz, Its not your children that are " Not normal" Its the general public that stigmatise people with LD, I find this a lot in my job, yes people do look away, but they should also REMEMBER It only takes a fall on the pavement, a bang on the head, get in a fight to turn their perfect world into a unreachable space, as regards your so-called family to me they are a shower of ignorant despicable bsds, just remember the saying Cazzz, what goes around comes around, & yes, it is true. my thoughts are with you. xx
Question Author
Bobbi, I did not take any offence with your reply, I get myself in trouble at times with my comments but I cannot help the way I am, I do not beat about the bush I get to the point.x
