Why don't they stop all speculation, and publish proof beyond doubt that the President was indeed born in the United States?

Because the proof is already a matter of public record.
What the Hawaiian authorities are saying is "We will not respond to the same requests for proof over and over again, because we've already provided proof".
Also, I suspect, even if they printed his birth certificate in a newspaper, that wouldn't stop some people - there are a lot of very strange people in America who believe in a lot of very odd conspiracy theories (man didn't really go to the moon, Marilyn was murdered by Mafia goons on the instructions of Bobby Kennedy etc etc...)

As I understood it Hawaii was in the USA when Barack Obama was born, but because his mother was under (either 18 or 21, I forget which) and she had not been a resident in the USA (Hawaii only joined the Union in 1959) for a certain length of time this technically means that he can't be President. He was however born in the USA.
here is his birth certificate.

Is that proof enough?
He was born in the USA and can therefore be president. (Arnold Schwarzenegger is an example of a person who can't.)

Isaw a news clip about this the other day on a foreign news station in the canteen, the argument was about the certificate being a facsimilie rather thanthe original (and something else I didn't quite follow), there was also speculation as to his nationality via his father, under British law he was a British national until Kenya became independent at which point he became Kenyan.
It was all part of a court case which will doubtlessly go nowhere.

from Wikipedia:
Article II, Section 1, Clause 5 of the Constitution sets the principal qualifications one must meet to be eligible to the office of president. A president must:
* be a natural born citizen of the United States;
* be at least thirty-five years old;
* have been a permanent resident in the United States for at least fourteen years.
Citizens, under the 14th Amendment, are " all persons born within the United States and subject to its jurisdiction".
So Obama qualifies. It doesn't matter who his parents were.
123Everton, I think a 'facsimile' is the same as what you get in Britain if you apply for your birth certificate: a copy of the original held in the registrar's office. I don't think you can get anything more official than that.

The problem is, the US is half populated by six toed, obese rednecks, who will not let this drop.
The more they are told to butt out and let BO get on with running the country, the more vocal they will become.
Frankly, this argument is one that is never going to die down for as long as BO remains in office.
