An impressive structure or a complete mess?

At first I though the later, until I was informed by an inside source that when it has been built it will cast a shadow of the London Olympic symbol over the whole Olympic site.

I thought this was an obvious hoax, but it is widely reported on Construction/Engineering websites all around world. It even has a Wikipedia entry...

The April Fool has either gone Viral, or the joke is on us and the thing is real!

Purely from the picture I don't find it aesthetically pleasing but, IF and it's a big IF, it's not going to cost us as taxpayers anything then I'm not bothered. However from what I've read, Mattel are meeting most of the cost which could be anything from as little as 51% upwards.
I say Horlicks
Why could they not build something that would serve a useful purpose instead of just being an Olympic Icon. Another useless London Landmark.
though as has been pointed out it's not on the Olympics website it is everywhere else, and it came out yesterday. So if it's a hoax it's premature and it's taken in a lot of people who ought to know better. And it makes no mention of Madrid's Fillpoora Institute, who have been working on something else

(I just put that in in case aog hasn't had his Mail fix for the day).
behave jno, he's probably sorting out his clippings to type them up on here.

/// From what I've read, Mattel are meeting most of the cost which could be anything from as little as 51% upwards.///

Er? Mattel are toy-makers who make Barbie dolls, Fisher-Price toys, Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars,

This structure is being part funded by steel company boss, Lakshmi Mittal, the richest man in Britain.
aog, it is in fact being made of Lego bricks so modeller is correct.

jno

Wrong, Lego bricks are made by the Lego Group.
We have heard that once the 800 people arrive at the top they will be imprisoned.
Then aliens (who are posing as architects) will experiment on them.
After this the (saucer shaped) restaurant will take off and fly back to the home planet of Flair Pool, which is located in the region known as Johnson's Anus,a recently discovered black hole.
This was from our reporter:~
Oaf Piroll.
mr veritas check out your appreciation post !!
That says alot about the UK when we're not sure if its a joke or not!
Well I'm a fan of modern art but I'm not impressed with the idea of immortalising the Olympic ( Lisa Simpson BJ ) Logo.

The sooner that piece of design monstrosity is forgotten the better.
Question Author
Mr Veritas It is past 12 noon, so I am afraid the joke is on you.
I think it's a sort of double bluff April fool. They deliberately release the design today and everyone says 'Yeah right, we're not that stupid you know'
...and then they go 'Ha Ha! fooled you all - it's real!'
Question Author
Well, some thought the tower was an April fool joke, even though it had been
reported on numerous sites some dated yesterday.

Since it is now past noon, I can now reveal what nobody even questioned, and that was, "it was designed that shape so as to cast a shadow of the Olympic symbol over the whole of the Olympic site".

Just a bit of fun on "All Fool's Day"
Actually you didn't AOG.

That would be the dreadful mishmash 2012 logo not the olympic rings

:-)
// The £19.1m design incorporates the five Olympic rings and will offer visitors panoramic views of London. //
