its usually people from the right that proclaim they are proud british people whilst simulateously running the country down and insisting that "Britain has gone to hell in a handcart / where did it all go wrong" etc etc
I'm one of those lefty liberals you dislike but i for one love the UK and even though its not perfect its still one of the best places in the world to live!
Why do tories always accuse lefties of being unpatriotic? I'm with Billy Bragg on this one. Yesterday, VE Day, I raised a glass to my granddad, who died on the Somme, and my dad, who took a bullet in France. I love this country and the heroes who died for it. And I hate tories who say Britain is 'broken'. It's not broken; most things work, most of the time. So there.
Perhaps the lefty sees the world (and Britain) as it is and how it should be (or like it to be) and unlike the right w(h)ingers they don't get the two confused.
I am British, happy to be so, but we do have a long and beligerant history, understanding our history defines the reason for our foreign policy problems today.
The alternitive is to talk about "mad mullahs" (circa 1897 to date), anarchists (circa 1905 to date) and radicals etc etc, all of whom have (usually) a defined and definable political agenda.
Lefties, and many others, protested about our clinging onto America's coat-tails when they invaded Iraq. That wasn't unpatriotic. It's not anti-British to hold opinions that differ from Right wing views.
The answer VHG gave to the link you kindly posted, he explained my post much better than I could.
/// The electoral system in this country was always generally above reproach and could be trusted ///
/// But in the last few years there has been widespread postal vote fraud, and in almost all the cases (at least here in the Mildands) it has been done by Asians (in both national and local elections).///
/// So by third world country I think he means dragging this country down to a level where the people voted in cant be trusted that they have not "fiddled" the system to get in. ///
In other words a general decline in everything we British hold dear.
