The decision from the Liberals is expected today. Should he join the rainbow coalition of Labour et al? Some people have short memories of the last hung parliament when MPs were brought from their sick beds to vote.

Alternatively is a better marriage with the Tories where they have offered everything they asked for? Although they may not agree with everything the Tories stand for it would make better government as the best cabinets always have antagonists to even things out.

Why ask, and respond, in such a perjorative way? Some people seem to resent the Lib Dems being in the position of making this decision but it's the system that's put them in that position, they didn't ask for it.

If that were true, it would be a no-brainer. But they haven't.

They should definately spurn the Tories. The Parties are incompatible.

Whether they should then support Labour is a harder question. Short term, they might taste a bit of power, but the electorate would turn on them next time. Might be better for them not to support either Party and let the Tories run things until the next elec tion, which would only be months away.

Joolee....yes I resent the Lib/Dems being in the most important of decision making and I agree that it is not their fault.

To be honest Clegg has done the Tories a favour, he has shown them what his party is like and that he has no control over the mouselei chompin eardy wierdy lefites in his party. Cameron should withdraw his offer and let them get on with it.

This is the ultimate condemnation of FPP.

Let's have everyone feeling disappointed, disenfranchised and bitter.

Usually, FPP only leaves 60-odd% of us feeling like that!
We need to get away from the mind-set of winners and losers. This is our country's government not a football match; it's several years of our lives, not a couple of months until two teams have a rematch.

When Thatcher and Blair got huge majorities, why should the millions of us who voted differently be left with no voice for years other than the yaboo of opposition?

I don't support UKIP or BNP but they are legitimate parties and many of our fellow citizens voted for them. Why is that just swept under the carpet as invalid?

I can't see how the principles or manifestoes of LibDem and Conservatives can be aligned.
Equally, I can't see how LibDem and Labour can achieve a workable majority without some Rainbow alliance which will be fragile and fraught.

Either way, the key question might be what will happen at the next (imminent) election.
LibDems and Labour cocking it up could be the best outcome for the Conservatives and a big majority at the next election but that would mean we are still stuck with this discredited 'first past post takes all' system.

So how do you get stable government when one third of the population (OK roughly) hates the other two thirds and wants to impose their policies on them?
