My yorkshire terrier was attacked last night by another dog while he was been brought for a walk. The other dogs owner had the dog off the lead and done nothing to help my dad free our dog from his dogs grip. My dog is very badly shaken and was cut by this dog and an immediate trip to a veterinary hospital was needed. My dog will be ok as will my dad who was bitten by this dog, thank God however I'm infuriated by the attitude of this man!
He eventually grabbed his dog and my dad called for him to not run away as it wasn't right especially after my dog was badly attacked by his dog who was off the lead. This man shouted at my dad to f*** off and scurried away to his house my dad was baffled and noticed which house the man had went into so after he returned from the vet hospital he went to speak to this man. The man answered the door shouted a torrent of abuse and expletives at my dad and slammed the door in his face.
I'm just wondering has anyone else been in a similar situation and if so how did you deal with things and what steps did you take afterwards? I keep thinking what if the dog attacked a small child or someone else? I love my dog and was so upset on hearing this. Should this man offer to pay the vet bill and hospital bill? Should this man be reported to some kind of authority? What should we do?
My dog is not aggressive in nature at all, he is so placid and friendly and a real pet. I appreciate your advice and reading this post.
Suezy, this dog and owner want reporting,it's sad enough that your little dog should be attacked in this way,it could also attack a child, the man????should be made to pay for the bills and more importantly keep his animal on a lead, tell the police...Good luck.
oh your poor little dog - thats really awful for you... and your old dad too!
The police will be interested I think as the dog bit a human - not just another animal... so the owner can be prosecuted.
You should be able to make the owner pay your vet bill too.. but you may want a solicitor to send the letter so he knows you are SERIOUS about it!
He's a bit sedated from what the vet gave him I'd love to hug him but he's very tender..The man is disgraceful. My dad asked him about paying the doctor and vet bills and he was vile to my dad.
yup tell the police. My late dog bit another dog once. It was accidental i am sure...in fact I was never really sure that my dog did it at all. The two dogs were playing chase and my dog got hold of the other dog's scruff. It was no big deal at the time and they carried on playing but next day the lady met me at the field and told me her dog was bitten, which it was. I was mortified, paid the vet bill and never took my dog to that place again....it sounds to me like that man knew what would happen.
The mans behaviour to walk away hints that he wanted to get away with it.. and maybe his dog has done this before...
Definately call the police.. and say your Dad was bitten too by the dog - and explain the mans behaviour... there is NO need for him to be vile to your dad or you - when his Dog is blatantly dangerous...
I thought all dog owners must keep dogs on a lead when in public anyway - so he may have broken the law there too! If it ran out into the road it could cause a car accident... You could also threaten to call in the Council or Dog Warden...
Don't delay suezy, report it to the police. As you say it could be a child, or a dog more severely injured. The dog is out of control and you'll be doing a service to others, not only to your own little dog, to make a report. Photo your dad's bite and your dog's injuries so you still have evidence in case it takes a while to get it sorted. The owner's not in shock, he just doesn't care.
Suezy if your neighbours are that concerned - and that is so nice to hear - they might be willing to give witness statements to back up your case. It will all help!
Thats what I was thinking boxtops, I won't be fobbed off..If that was a child God knows what the outcome would be..That ignorant man needs to know that
