Dr Who

I am a great fan of Dr Who, but who agrees that this series is a huge letdown.With the loss of the best writer and the best Doctor ever in Tenant it was always going to struggle . Why is it everytime I look at the new doctor I think of Herman Munster>His acting is poor and clumsy. What has always been a must watch has now turned sadly into an if theres nowt else to do i will watch it.

Any thoughts from you others out there?

My point is not a discussion on who is the best , but feelings on where the series is now with this baboon in the lead roll.

I think a lot has to do with the writing as well, now that Russell T Davies has gone. For instance, the original 'Blink' with the Angels was perhaps my favourite episode ever...a brilliant idea, but when all the Angels were being chased by 'the church' and River Song the other week, it just didn't work. Sort of like (and heres a weird analogy for you) Jaws and Jaws 2. Jaws was great 'cos you hardly ever saw the shark...just the music, so when you did see it near the end you didn't care it was an obvious model, but in Jaws 2 you saw it so often it really bugged you it was an obvious model. Does any of this make sense, or am I just rambling?

Haven't really watched since the days of John Pertwee

Everyone has their favourite doctor (john Pertwee for me) and anyone else always falls short. The latest one is very good but some of the storylines are a bit repetetive and implausible.

John Pertwee was very believable in the roll and also when he played Worzel Gummidge which I would love to see again, even in my old dotage.

im on about the poor acting...I agree being implausable is part of it. The storylines now I find to be poorly constructed by the writers.

I couldn't disagree more.One of the joys of Doctor Who has always been change.I'm enjoying it just as much as I always have,and I have been watching sing The Daemons in the mid '70s.

Do the naysayers realise that current showrunner Steven Moffat was the writer of some of "New Who's" most acclaimed eps (including "Blink")?

I'll agree that DT was possibly the best Doctor (finally supplanting Jon Pertwee), but Matt Smith is doing fine. (Plus Karen Gillan is gorgeous),

I'm with you LeMarchand. I like Matt Smith (despite the dickie-bow - can't stand them) no-on could ever be as attractive as David Tenant but Matt is amusing too. Not sure about Amy - I always liked Rose and even Sarah Jane but I just love Dr Who - great series!

I think Matt Smith is an improvement on DT.

He is less cute and instead has much more darkness to him.

He can deliver a jokey line and a stupid smile and at the same time indicate that he has seen and done terrible things.

I think the writing needs to work this dark side.
