Mrs JtH was on long-term IB until she managed to open a heavy door in the assessment centre to keep her appointment !!

Even if they are now using 'independent assessors' there are still obviously huge problems in the system.
jackthehat they are calling in those that have been on it years, i know someone that has been on it approx 10 years + . I think they will kick him off.
There is an old guy up near me that has been getting £228 (approx) a week for years and i hope they have him in
Tough? you mean being married to a younger man!! lol!!! I don't mind, I don't believe in handouts unless really urgent. Would like the heating allowance cos as you know it gets very cold and damp in these old places, mind doesn't have a damp-proof course as it's so old so very damp in winter!

Know of a few people here who sign on in England and live here, that does make me cross, but wouldn't dream of denouncing anyone!
net :-)

well there must be some reason my Dad cant get the prescription free... and I know they would have looked into it..

anyhow - aside from that... they love Spain.. and think the healthcare system is just wonderful... the hospital near them in Denia is amazing apparently... so its good to know if they ever got ill they would be looked after well - maybe even better than if they were here!
Health system here in spain is definitely better to the English one. Can get a same day appointment and when it was getting too crowded. the powers that be, employed more doctors - simples!
So if healthcare in Spain is so wonderful why do ex-pats need prescriptions on the NHS then?
so that the Spanish NHS then dont have to pay for all the ex-pat healthcare and can therefore afford to keep their hospitals so damn good of course!!

vibrasphere,
Brilliant answer - still wetting myself over it!!!
Well for a start, Spain does not give out benenfits willy-nilly, we pay for what we get (Britain should follow suit). As to why some of your pensioners need medicines on the NHS I have no idea, all the pensioners here that I know off get it all for free here, unless like me, there's some reason. It may be down to the individual health authority. I know Zapatero wants people to pay for more of their own meds because of the crisis. I suspect a lot of the pensioners don't speak the language and therefore do not understand the system! When I became a pensioner I was asked if I wanted a doctor in Spain or England. Spain has a reciprocal agreement with Britain that they can recoup the costs, therefore managing a super system. Most of the people in Britain who are abusing the system haven't ever paid in!
